I have been in healthcare for 10 years, and when I wanted to get my own piercings done, found little middle-ground between a tattoo shop performing piercings on the side, and a teeny-bopper joint at the mall (hint: rhymes with "Pairs"...). I thought to myself, "I know about proper infection prevention protocol, I know how to safely use a needle, I like people, and I LOVE glitz and
glam!". So I packed up the car, drove to a Saskatchewan shop specializing in piercing (reminded me of "Breakfast at Tiffany's!" and learned from the best of the best! So here I am, Red Deer! Grand opening October 1st, 2023. More details (hours, prices, etc to follow). FAQ:
Q: What health and safety guidelines do you follow? A: I am compliant with the Alberta Public Health Act, the Personal Services Regulation and the Personal Services Standards (which are regulated by Alberta Health Services)
Q: What piercing technique do you use? A: I pierce using single-use 20-18g needles designed to glide into and through the tissue. I then insert a taper bar to keep the newly-created opening in the tissue. From there I insert the jewelry post, and the threadless jewelry pin (this is the glitzy part you see from the front!) then "clicks" in to the front. Q: Where do you get your jewelry? A: Neometal and trinitybj. I only buy threadless jewelry made of ASTM F-136 Titanium (this is the stuff surgeons use for joint replacements because the body recognizes it as "self") and 18k gold. Q: Can I bring in my own jewelry? A: No. I am accountable for every piercing I do so I start with sterile jewelry made of certified metals. Q: Do your prices include the cost of jewelry? A: Yes
Q: Am I "one and done" with you once my piercing is complete? A: You are my client until the piercing has healed (6-8 weeks for earlobes and 6-9 months for cartilage (auricle, helix, flat, conch and nostril). Q: Why don't you use piercing guns? A: Short answer: Piercing guns cannot be sterilized. They also create blunt tissue trauma and impair tissue healing.
