Your first public statement on the Israel-Hamas war has left many Jews feeling betrayed and asking a painful question: Why did you find your voice for Palestine but not for Jews - your own people?

You are obviously allowed and entitled to challenge and oppose the Israeli government and policies. Please do!

Jews do not have to agree politically simply because we share history and parts of our identity.

But that’s not what you did.

You instead, further pushed an inaccurate, antisemitic claim, and stood behind a genocidal slogan that calls for the elimination of Israel (“free Palestine”).

I struggle to understand why your public empathy seems to be completely one-sided.

You can be critical of Israel without abandoning Jews and Israelis.

You can support Jews and Israelis without forgetting about Palestinians.

And you can advocate for Palestinians without throwing Jews and Israel under the bus.

I wish you had used your voice to do both.

You had an opportunity to use your platform to demonstrate what nuanced, compassionate Jewish leadership could 100k like, during a complicated, tumultuous, and crucial time in history.

Instead, your first major public statement on the Israel-Hamas war has left Jews feeling abandoned, confused, betrayed, angry, disappointed, devastated, and concerned.

You let us down, but it’s not too late to turn this around.

Now is your opportunity to put in the work to become an informed, loyal, Jewish ally, who shares accurately, responsibly, and who doesn’t contribute to propagate inaccurate and harmful narratives that fuel antisemitism.
