AHKE

Ive had this discussion with a few people who didn't believe " AHKE " meant anything and it was made up and although I cant find the original write up of how AHKE was a chosen word of meaning to match my intentions, this provides a short explanation.

I wanted a name that would correlate to what my products stood for, the intentions of what I wanted to provide, and to come from my history of Native ancestry. My family on my mothers side are Ojibwe from the Garden River First Nation in Sault St. Marie, my grandfather was a chief of those lands and I am very proud of that. Although I was denied practicing my native teachings by a white stepmother, it doesn't remove who I am and my intentions as I grew up were to learn and teach myself what I could. AHKE is my connection to what I have learned and want to become. I can only hope that people see the connection of the meaning behind the name and why my products are so earthy and natural and from the land in their natural state. Which is also why the flower is my symbol.

It was a wild experience when I came to Vancouver, I started having rapid dreams and flashbacks of my childhood - my grandfather in his headpiece, open fire cooked corn on the cob, playing on the reserve. Hearing the drums played at Hastings and Main St would make me cry - I felt that in my bones and it always stopped me in my tracks. I don't know if it was just landing on historical Native Land but the memories hit me hard and fast. There is a large connection to Native history and knowledge here where Ontario doesn't seem to acknowledge and a grandiose mindset of
non-existence.

You dont get to disregard my whole intention with a 2 minute google search and come back with
" well, I didn't see it so its not true " and make an uneducated argument. You cannot explain facts to those who are hardcore bent on denial of those facts - so I dont.

AHKE was created in 2019, rolled out and stopped when Covid hit in 2020. Rebooted in 2021 when the restrictions slowed down.
This takes me way back. It was my first shelf of products that started it all - before " AHKE " became the name. Some products have changed shape and containers have changed. I am modifying a few things to make products better and more earth friendly.
