One thing that struck me during my recent trip to northern Vietnam:
Soup is not seasonal.
In Vancouver, summer is always our slowest time of year (you may have noticed we press pause on farmers markets from mid-June - early Sept 😉). As soon as the weather gets warm, people stop thinking about bone broth, stews, and soups.
Meanwhile in Hanoi, where it was hot, humid, and sweaty from the moment we stepped outside, people were happily eating pho for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Not just pho either. Soup seemed to show up everywhere. Noodle soups, broths served alongside grilled meats, congee, clear soups, fish fin soup alongside the main fish dish.
It reminded me that in many food cultures, soup isn't "cold weather food."
It's simply food.
Maybe we've all been conditioned to think soup is only for rainy days and winter colds.
The Vietnamese would probably disagree 🍜
Have you ever eaten soup on a hot summer day?
The dream: brunch without consequences.
The reality: a 14-step gut-friendly safety plan just to leave the house. 😭
If you've ever wanted to be a "normal girl" but your gut said absolutely not, this one's for you. 💛

Me VS. my own digestive system, daily. 😮💨
💬 Tag a bestie who also struggles with their gut daily.
I thought healing my gut would be simple:
🥄 Eat more fibre.
🥬 Be more conscious about what I eat.
💦 Drink lots of water.
But, instead?
I felt bloating. Discomfort. That heavy, "something's off" feeling after eating healthy, high-fibre meals.
Here’s what most people don’t realize:
Your gut doesn’t always need more to heal.
Sometimes, it only needs support breaking down what you’re already eating.
That’s why starting with warm, easy-to-digest foods like bone broth can make a huge difference. 🍵💛
It's less stress on your stomach and more support where it counts.
Healing isn’t always about doing more.
It’s about doing less, better.

Spring Farmers Markets 🌱🥣
I’ve been slinging organic, gut-healing bone broth at farmers markets in Vancouver since 2018! I do far fewer now (thanks to analyzing the data and realizing I’m really not that popular in the summer months lol 😅), but I still love doing them.
Meeting my OG customers is always so heartwarming. Introducing new customers to my broths - and having to recount how long we’ve been in business and how many stores we’re in - forces me to take stock of the success we’ve had, even though it doesn’t feel like much to me on most days 🥹 Also hearing from regulars how "Shorba is the best" doesn't ever get old!
If you were at the West End Farmers Market last Saturday, you would’ve seen my sister Natalee working the booth for me — the only time I haven’t worked my own stall! She did it as a birthday present so I could dance to my favourite live DJ late into the previous night 😉💃
But I’m back this spring at:

Fibre is often the first thing people reach for when their digestion feels off, but... 👀.
While plays an important role, more isn’t always better, especially if your gut is already struggling.
If you’ve ever added more fibre and felt more bloated, more uncomfortable, or took one too many trips to the bathroom... you're not alone. 😔
Digestion isn’t just about what you eat:
It’s also about how well your body can process it.
Sometimes, the best place to start isn’t adding more:
it’s giving your gut a bit of support and space to reset.

Gratitude isn’t just a mindset shift: it’s something your body feels, too. 🧡
Slowing down, noticing what supports you, and appreciating the small things can make a real difference, especially when your gut has been through a lot.
It might look like:
✅ Slowly eating gentle foods that don’t overwhelm your stomach.
✅ Warm, filling meals that feel comforting.
✅ Ingredients you recognize and trust.
The more we tune into what feels good, the easier it becomes to support both our digestion and overall sense of balance.
Sometimes the smallest things are the ones your body thanks you for most. 🙌🏻
Gut healing often shows up in small ways first and if you're just getting started, congratulations! 💖
If you've started choosing warm drinks and meals over cold ones, you'll notice:
✅ Less bloating after meals.
✅ Long-term energy throughout the day.
✅ Clearer thinking and better focus.
✅ Feeling satisfied after eating.
Healing the gut rarely comes from one dramatic change. It usually comes from consistent, supportive foods and routines.

Many people think gut health starts with supplements. But, it actually starts with simple daily habits, like how you eat. 👀😋
Your gut thrives when you:
1️⃣ Eat slowly.
2️⃣ Chew your food thoroughly before swallowing.
3️⃣ Taking a moment to breathe before your next bite.
4️⃣ Eating warm, easy to digest foods.
When your digestion is off, the body often sends signals like bloating, low energy, and brain fog.
These signs are not random.
They're your body asking for support. And a small change in how you eat can make a real big difference. 👏
