Today, let's join the conversation for World Menopause Day, as we recognize women's unique experiences through menopause and this year's focus on 'Chronic Pain at Midlife'

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Menopause: a natural stage of life when a woman's menstrual period permanently stops due to changes in hormone production.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Chronic pain: refers to pain that lasts, or keeps coming back, for
more than three months.

For many women experiencing menopause, chronic pain can manifest because falling levels of estrogen affect your nerves, joints and muscles, and even
affect how your brain processes pain signals.
While this happens, many women may also be dealing with poorer sleep, lower moods, hot flashes, and other possible biological, psychological and social factors โ€“ all of which can influence how pain develops and is experienced.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ"Womenโ€™s pain has too often been dismissed through gendered stereotypes, and labelled โ€™emotionalโ€™ rather than properly investigated and treated. Chronic pain at midlife should be recognized as a key component of menopause care, requiring gender-sensitive, individualized, and multidisciplinary approaches, alongside further research to address gaps in knowledge and care."๐ŸŽ™๏ธ - International Menopause Society

The International Menopause Society (IMS) supports womenโ€™s health around the world by delivering evidence-based education, advancing research and policy, providing reliable information for women, and fostering global collaboration.

๐Ÿ“At The Vitality Clinic, we have an amazing team of practitioners whose care addresses womenโ€™s health and chronic pain in particular, whether through Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine practices, Chiropractic Care, or Registered Massage Therapy.

Today is World Mental Health Day, so before you pour your energy into everyone and everything else, take a moment to check in with yourself.

Supporting your mental wellbeing doesn't always have to mean making big changes. Sometimes, it's coming back to some of the basics and asking: What might I need right now?

๐ŸŒฟ REST
Give yourself permission to slow down, recharge, and take a break.

๐Ÿฅ‘ NUTRITION
Nourish your body with foods that give you energy and help you feel your best.

๐Ÿซถ CONNECTION
Make time for the people who make you feel supported, understood, and happy.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ MOVEMENT
Move in ways that feel good โ€” whether that's a walk outside, stretching, yoga, or simply getting up and changing your environment.

โœจ GRATITUDE
Pause and notice something good, however small. A calm, refreshing morning, a delicious meal, a meaningful conversation, or simply a moment of peace or joy.

Your mental health is part of your overall health, and caring for yourself isn't selfish.

So, before you pour from your cup, make sure you've taken a moment to fill it too. ๐ŸŒฑ

Understanding the Principles of East Asian Medicine ๐ŸŒฟ

East Asian Medicine is built on the idea that health is about balance. Rather than focusing solely on individual symptoms, it looks at how different systems of the body work together and how our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing are interconnected.

Some of its guiding principles include:

๐ŸŒฑ The body functions as a whole.
Every part of the body is connected. When one system is out of balance, it can influence others.

โš–๏ธ Balance supports wellbeing.
Health is viewed as a dynamic state of balance that is constantly influenced by factors such as stress, sleep, nutrition, movement, emotions, and our environment.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ Prevention is just as important as treatment.
Supporting health before concerns become more significant has long been a cornerstone of East Asian Medicine.

๐ŸŒป Each person is unique.
Two people with similar symptoms may receive different treatments because care is tailored to the individual, not just the condition.

๐ŸŒ€ Supporting the body's natural ability to regulate and heal.
Treatment aims to encourage the body's own regulatory processes and restore balance rather than simply addressing symptoms in isolation.

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese (East Asian) Medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years to support health and wellbeing.

Using very fine, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body, acupuncture aims to encourage the body's natural healing processes and promote balance and restoration.

Rather than focusing on a single symptom, acupuncture takes a whole-person approach, recognizing that our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing are all deeply connected. Every treatment is tailored to the individual, taking into account your health history, lifestyle, and unique concerns. People seek acupuncture for many different reasons, including pain, stress, headaches, sleep concerns, digestion, women's health, injury recovery, and overall wellness.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing more about how acupuncture works and the many ways it can support your health. Whether you're simply curious or considering booking your first appointment, we hope you'll follow along as we take a closer look at this time-honoured practice. ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿพ

This year marks the final year of the 2024โ€“2026 World Su***de Prevention Day theme: โ€œChanging the Narrative on Su***de,โ€ with the call to action: โ€œStart the Conversation.โ€

Changing the narrative means moving away from silence, stigma, and misunderstanding, and toward openness, compassion, empathy, and support. It means creating spaces where people feel comfortable talking about their mental health, reaching out when they need support, and knowing they will be met with understanding rather than judgment.

Su***de prevention is something we can all be part of. It can begin with checking in with someone, listening with compassion, learning about mental health, challenging harmful assumptions, and helping create communities where seeking support is encouraged.

At The Vitality Clinic, our practitioners are here to listen, here to understand, and here to support. If you or anyone you know is struggling, or if you'd simply like to learn more, browse the following links:

โŒ "Chiropractors just crack backs."

โœ… Chiropractic care goes far beyond โ€œcracking backs.โ€
Care can include assessments, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, mobility work, education, and lifestyle recommendations, with or without manual adjustments.

โŒ "If I don't hear a crack, the treatment didn't do anything."

โœ… The sound sometimes heard during an adjustment is simply gas being released from a joint. It's not an indicator of how effective the treatment is or will be

โŒ "Chiropractors only focus on the spine."

โœ… Chiropractic assessments often look at how the entire body moves and functions, including joints, muscles, posture, balance, and movement patterns.

โŒ "If nothing hurts, I don't need to think about my movement or mobility."

โœ… Mobility, strength, balance, and function can be supported before discomfort develops.

โŒ "Rest is always the best solution."

โœ… While rest may be important, appropriate movement is also often a key part of recovery and long-term function.

โœจ TIP: Use Your Benefits! โœจ

Our bodies are constantly adapting to stress, posture, repetitive movement, injury, and daily habits. Over time, joints and muscles can become stiff, tense, or restricted โ€” making movement feel less comfortable or efficient.

So how does chiro support movement & mobility?

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Manual adjustments: help restore movement in joints that may feel restricted.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Soft tissue and muscle work: helps release tension and improve flexibility.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Cupping and scraping therapies: can support circulation and reduce muscle tightness.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Active rehabilitation: helps strengthen and retrain movement patterns for long-term function.

Together, these approaches can help improve how your body moves, adapts, and functions over time, so you can move more freely, comfortably, and efficiently ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
