Choosing the right Makeup Artist for your special event, is one of the most personal decisions you will make. And it goes so much deeper than a pretty portfolio. Some things to consider…

1. What type of environment do you hope for, for your experience?
Are you hoping for a quiet and relaxed environment, or one with high energy? Do you thrive with someone more chatty and energetic, or want a more calm, quiet and relaxed space?

2. Do you love the makeup, or love the faces of the Clients or Models.
Imagine how the makeup will look on you. Is this actually something you’re hoping for? Or do you just love the way the makeup looks on the individual. Being able to determine this will help you to find an ideal MUA for YOU.

3. Does their style align with yours.
Some MUA’s focus on interpreting any look you hope for, and some customize in a signature look. Choose one who works best for you. Both are excellent options.

4. Read the reviews — and read between the lines.

Skill matters enormously. So does how your artist makes you feel. Look for words like calm, professional, listened, made me feel beautiful. The wedding morning experience is just as important as the final look.

5. Ask about their process.

A great Makeup Artist will have a clear booking process, a contract, a timeline, and a bridal preview built into the experience. These aren’t just details, they are signs of a professional who takes your day as seriously as you do.

6. Trust how you feel about their communication.
Do you feel heard? Do you feel excited? Do you feel like they genuinely understand your vision? That feeling matters. You will be spending your wedding morning with this team. It should feel right.

The right MUA isn’t just someone who is talented. They are someone whose work you love, whose process you trust, and who makes you feel completely taken care of from the very first message.

Your Bridal Trial Checklist. Including a controversial take on a tip I feel is not necessary for YOUR Trial.

1. Wear white.This helps you truly visualize how your makeup will look on your Wedding Day. Such a simple thing that makes such a big difference.

2. Get a facial. If a facial isn’t an option, I’m a big fan of TATCHA Beauty Rice Polish and the right skincare for your skin type in the weeks leading up to your trial. Your skin is the canvas.

3. Spray Tan. If you’re planning on a Spray Tan for your Wedding Day, have it for your trial too. This gives us a complete and accurate vision of your final look.

4. Reference Photos. Come with 2–5 reference photos of Bridal Makeup you love. Please be mindful of heavily edited or AI generated inspiration images.

5. Style your hair. This can make a tremendous difference to your overall final look. Ideally your Hair Trial and Makeup Trial happen the same day — but if not, come with your hair polished.

6. Brows. Have your brows groomed. Not only do they change the overall look — they can also impact the ease and final polish of your makeup request.

7. Dermaplaning — this one may be controversial.
Please do not feel pressured to Dermaplaning before your trial. This is a personal choice, and we want you to feel completely comfortable with every decision leading up to your Wedding Day. It’s entirely up to you.
