Switzerland is a beautiful place to get sunburnt.
With every 1,000 metres of altitude, UV levels rise by about 10 % (WHO). Zurich sits at 408 m, Lucerne at 436 m. At the Jungfraujoch, 3,454 m up, you get roughly 30 % more UV than in either city.
Add snow and it gets more intense: fresh snow reflects up to 80% of
UV radiation. The sun reaches you from above and from below.
That is why an autumn hike or a ski week can bring far more UV than you expect.
What helps:
→ Broad-spectrum SPF 50+, reapplied every two hours
→ Lips, ears and the underside of your nose, the spots most people forget
→ Sunglasses or goggles with UV protection
