A church built by two brothers who decided to do things their own way.

Darkness below. Light above.
Death, restraint, excess, transformation — all compressed into one impossibly vertical space.

The Asam brothers blurred the boundaries between architecture, sculpture and painting, turning the church itself into a journey from the earthly to the divine.

Maybe that’s why I felt so drawn to it.

I’ve always been interested in what happens when you stop decorating a surface — and start working with the space itself.

Asamkirche, Munich. 1733–1746.

He studies stone. This time, he wanted to become it.

As a geologist, he asked for a composition that would make his skin feel fractured like a surface shaped by pressure, time and transformation.

Drawn freehand directly around his anatomy, allowing every rupture to follow the movement of his shoulder and arm.
