The jangdokdae (장독대) is where earthenware onggi of soy sauce, doenjang, gochujang and other ferments live outdoors, gradually changing with air, temperature and season. Fermentation here is not tucked away; it remains visible, tended to, and part of everyday life.

Hyeja’s Rice Probiotics Gentle Micellar Cleansing Milk brings rice and fermentation into another daily act: washing. A non-foaming milk cleanser formulated with rice and probiotic ferment, it removes makeup and daily impurities without leaving skin feeling tight or over-cleansed. MAHKJIP (막집)
Hyeja’s first Seoul space is located within MAHKJIP, a building designed by Korean architect Cho Byoung Soo.

The word Mahk (막) is difficult to translate. It does not simply mean rough or unfinished. Instead, it describes a distinctly Korean way of seeing beauty—not in perfection or refinement, but in things that remain honest, spontaneous, and naturally shaped by everyday life.

Rather than restoring an old hanok and neighboring house to appear new, MAHKJIP preserves their original character. Weathered timber, old roof tiles, repaired surfaces, and traces of use are allowed to remain, becoming part of the architecture itself.

For Cho Byoung Soo, Mahk is not an aesthetic of imperfection for its own sake. It is the belief that beauty emerges when nothing more than what is necessary is added, allowing materials, people, and time to speak for themselves.

Today, MAHKJIP continues as THEILMA THEILMA Seoul, where Hyeja presents its first Seoul space, 〈Grandmother’s Room〉.

Like MAHKJIP, Hyeja finds beauty in what has quietly endured—objects softened by time, traces of care, and the ordinary moments that deserve to be remembered as we move into the future.

Grandmother’s Room is a contemporary interpretation of the care, warmth, and quiet beauty found in everyday Korean life.

Designed in collaboration with metal craft artist Amira Gama, the space brings together memory and contemporary design through Hyeja’s lens.

As we move forward, some things become even more important to remember. We hope this space serves as a gentle reminder of the values worth carrying with us into the future.

〈할머니의 방〉은 한국의 일상 속에 머물러온 돌봄과 온기, 그리고 조용한 아름다움을 오늘의 시선으로 풀어낸 공간입니다.

금속공예 작가 아미라 가마 Amira 와 함께 디자인한 이 공간은, 과거를 재현하기보다 우리가 앞으로도 오래도록 기억하고 이어가야 할 가치들을 담아냈습니다.

앞으로 나아갈수록 더 오래 기억해야 할 것들이 있습니다. 이 공간이 우리가 오래도록 간직하고 이어가야 할 가치들을 다시 떠올리는 작은 계기가 되었으면 합니다.

Hyeja’s first space in Korea opens inside THEILMA in Seochon. Inspired by the grandmothers of the neighborhood and the quiet beauty of old Korean homes, the space brings together pink cushions, folded bojagi, traditional forms, and objects softened by time and touch.

Created with artist Amira Gama, Grandmother’s Room is not a reconstruction of the past, but a space for what quietly remains: warmth, imperfection, and the beauty of everyday Korean life.

After meeting customers around the world, Hyeja returns to where its sense of beauty first began. We warmly invite you to join us.

혜자의 첫 한국 공간이 서촌 더일마에 문을 엽니다. 은 서촌의 할머니들과 오래된 한국의 집에서 발견한 조용한 아름다움에서 시작되었습니다. 분홍빛 방석과 보자기, 오래된 형태, 그리고 시간과 손길을 거치며 부드러워진 물건들이 공간 곳곳에 담겨 있습니다.

아미라 작가와 함께 만든 이 공간은 과거를 재현하는 곳이 아닙니다. 빠르게 변하는 시간 속에서도 오래도록 곁에 남아 있는 온기, 완벽하지 않기에 더욱 아름다운 것들, 그리고 한국의 일상이 지닌 아름다움을 담아낸 작은 방입니다.

세계 여러 도시에서 고객들을 만나온 혜자는 이제 그 아름다움이 시작된 곳으로 돌아옵니다. 으로 여러분을 초대합니다.

Do Ho Suh reminds us that home is not only a place, but a memory carried through the body.

In Walk the House, his translucent architectures trace the spaces he has lived in — Seoul, New York, London — not as fixed structures, but as emotional imprints. Walls become soft. Boundaries become porous. A house becomes something that can be folded, carried, remembered, and reassembled elsewhere.

This idea feels deeply aligned with Hyeja.

Our work begins with Korean heritage, but not as nostalgia. Rather, as something living — a memory, a sensibility, a way of seeing care, ritual, and skin through time. Like Suh’s fabric homes, Hyeja carries fragments of Korea into new places, allowing them to exist gently within different worlds.

Beauty, too, is a kind of home.
A quiet space we return to.
A feeling we carry with us.
