"Psoriatic Arthritis"

Ever heard of it? Well it's a condition linked with the skin condition Psoriasis.

Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune condition that can cause pain, swelling and joint inflammation. Left untreated can cause issues with your daily life affecting your hobbies and general day to day tasks.

Lack of treatment long term can lead to significant damage to the joint lines leading to the need for a potential knee replacement in the future.

We diagnosed Phil on the first session. He received the medication required by his GP to support his rehabilitation and underwent a structured rehab programme with us to get him back running.

This is an earlier video but thankfully he is still running and continues to come to our Mens Strength Class to maintain the strength and fitness he built during his time in rehab.

Prevention is long term, not for the short term.

"Back pain overtook his life"

You may think it sounds extreme but the amount of times we hear this at the clinic is phenomenal.

Listen to how Nathan:

1. Helped the patient overcome their back pain
2. Allowed the patient to take back control of his life
3. Return to his daily hobbies pain free

You don't have to live life in pain. There's always a strategy to help you take back control.

*Introducing Nathan*

Nathan is the lead physio at Back2Front and also takes our Fit4Life and Men's Strength Classes. At dinnertime, you'll likely catch him eating his wife's batch cooked beef chilli...it's been a staple since he started at Back2Front! You know something's up if he doesn't have it.

Here's something most physio clinics won't tell you.

The reason your rehabilitation didn't hold — or didn't get you all the way there — probably wasn't the treatment. It was what happened after it.

A sheet of exercises to do at home sounds reasonable. But home doesn't have the equipment to progressively load a recovering tissue. So people do the same exercises at the same resistance for weeks, feel a bit better, and assume that's as good as it gets.

It isn't.

Proper rehabilitation is progressive. It means increasing the challenge on the tissue over time until it's genuinely stronger — not just less painful. That requires equipment, a structured programme, and somewhere to actually do the work.

That's why we've made it simple.

Every Initial Physiotherapy Assessment at Back2Front now includes:
→ A free 1-month open gym membership
→ Your individualised exercise programme
→ A Back2Front bag and water bottle to get you started

You come in for your assessment. You leave with everything you need to recover properly — not just a sheet of paper and a follow-up date.

If you've been managing pain and feel like you've plateaued, or if you're starting from scratch and want to do it right, this is the place to start.

Most people managing pain are doing exactly what they've been told. You've seen your GP. You've spoken to a friend. Or you've spoken to the lady in B&M.

They said:

🛌🏾Rest it.
🩻Wait for the scan.
🦿Assume it's just wear and tear.

None of that advice is wrong — it's just incomplete.

And in the long run, it can keep you stuck. These three myths are the ones we hear most often in clinic.

They're believable. They sound logical. And they delay recovery by months — sometimes years.

If you've been trying to manage pain by following standard advice and it keeps coming back, this is worth a read.

Save it. Share it with someone who's going through the same thing.

And if you're ready to understand what's actually going on — not just manage symptoms — come and see us.

What are the 3 most common causes of running related injuries?

Can you guess what they are?

Nope...Not neglecting your warm up. Or neglecting a cool down. Not even your trainers.

They are:

🕙1. CHANGE IN DURATION

A sharp increase in running duration, whether that is session by session, or week on week, can lead to running related injuries. Your body takes time to tolerate longer distances.

🥵2. CHANGE IN INTENSITY

Many people end up in Zone 3 for running. Too quick to see aerobic benefits, too slow to see anaerobic benefits. This leads to increased recovery time and poor specificity of training.

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️3. CHANGE IN FREQUENCY

It's easy to fall foul of change in frequency when you feel that endorphin hit from running. But new runners should make sure you give yourself at least 48 hours between bouts of running to allow for recovery and adaptation.

❌️Changing one of the above isn't a problem but, when we speak with our patients, most of them have changed more than 1 of the above at the same time which has lead to achilles/knee and hip related pain.

If you are struggling with any of the above, drop us a DM with the word "RUN" and we'll can put you on the right track.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Absolutely love this review from one of our patients as it sums up what we do for our patients.

💭Coming to Back2Front is much more than just treating your pain. It's understanding the deeper reasons for why you are suffering with the pain.

🪑Neck and shoulder pain is often caused by being too stationary for too long causing an inactivity and weakness of your neck, shoulders and upper back.

💪After the initial treatment by Nathan, he referred this patient into our Fit4Life classes, specifically designed by our physios to help prevent pain from returning and improve your overall health through exercise.
..And she continues to come to this day!
