Villages are spread out, public transport and specialist services are often based in larger towns like Chesterfield, Derby and Buxton. When a child is anxious, overwhelmed or struggling to do every day things, long journeys can feel impossible. So now I am offering my service in your local community

Play Therapy as a type of psychotherapy which differs primarily from other traditional therapies as it does not rely on speech and emotional intelligence to express and communicate emotions or experiences. Play is a child's primary means of communication and so meets the developmental stage of most children without an expectation to use language and construct coherent narratives in sessions.

The Play Therapist creates a safe and supportive environment, with few rules inside the Playroom where children can be free to express their emotions, tell their story or explore their experiences in play or creative activities. Play therapy enables the child to explore difficult emotions and experiences at a safe distance using symbolic play and no pressure to put words to their play.

Out quieter club is peaceful, low arousal and dedicated to calm play, a small group, and gentle fun. A space where your child can unwind, explore and create at their own speed.

There are lots of amazing SEN and Therapeutic independent and voluntary services in Derby and Derbyshire. Is there a network where you can all meet up and share good practice? If not would you wish to join one?

As a parent of a neurodiverse daughter and having worked in SEN for 20 years this year I have decided to offer a quiet holiday club in the summer for kids who would prefer a quiet and low arousal club. If you are a parent or know parents whose children would prefer a club like this please can you share this with them. No more than 8 per group so numbers are limited. We are also using this to see if we can continue it term time as well
