How It Works on Men's Skin

Men's skin is about 20% thicker and often oilier than women's skin due to testosterone.

Avoid areas with thick, coarse terminal beard hair, as a rigid dermaplaning blade is designed for fine vellus hair, not heavy facial hair.

It should not be performed over active acne, cold sores, open wounds, or severe eczema.

ACNE Is not one condition with one treatment. Different types of acne respond to different active ingredients, and choosing the right one can make a siqnificant difference

▫️For blackheads and whiteheads the main issue is blocked pores. Salicylic acid helps clear excess oi and debris from within the pore, while retinoids help normalise skin-cell turnover and reduce the formation of new comedones.

🔥For inflamed papules and pustules, ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid and niacinamide can help reduce inflammation and improve active breakouts.

🔘Post-acne pigmentation is particularly common in darker skin tones. Azelaic acid and vitamin C can help gradually improve these marks. but daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential. otherwise pigmentation can persist for much longer.

When it comes to acne scarring skincare does have limitations. Retinoids and exfoliating acids can improve overall texture and very superficial irregularities, but established ice-pick, boxcar and rolling scars usually require procedural treatments for a meaningful improvement.

One of the most common mistakes I see is using too many active ingredients at the same time.

This often leads to irritation, dryness and disruption of the skin barrier rather than faster results
A good acne routine should be targeted, introduced gradually and kept consistent. Most active ingredients need several weeks before vou can properly assess whether they are working.
If you are developing painful nodules, cystic acne, persistent breakouts or early scarring, it is worth seeking medical assessment sooner rather than later.
Controlling inflammation early is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of long-term pigmentation and permanent acne scars.

Keratosis Pilaris:
A harmless, genetic condition caused by dead skin cells plugging hair follicles, producing rough sandpaper like "chicken skin" bumps on the upper outer arms, thighs, or cheeks. Unlike inflammatory acne or comedones, the bumps are uniform, non-tender, follicularly bound, rough rather than pustular, and generally worsen with dry weather rather than sebum surges.

Milia:
Small (1-2 mm), benign superficial cysts containing trapped, laminated keratin that commonly crop up around the eyes, eyelids, and upper cheeks. They are often mistaken for closed comedones (whiteheads), and cannot be popped or squeezed out without breaking the overlying skin.

Sebaceous Hvperplasia:
Benign, doughnut-shaped overgrowths of normal oil glands that typically present on mature, sun-damaged or oily facial skin as soft flesh to yellowish papules with a distinct central indentation. While easily confused with closed comedones or inflammatory acne papules, they are persistent, completely indolent (no swelling or pustule formation) and non-expressible.

Sebaceous Filaments:
Natural tubular structures that line the follicular canal to channel sebum from the gland to the surface of the skin. most visible as widespread across the nose and central cheeks. Unlike true open comedones (blackheads) which are pathological, widened plugs that oxidize to a dark black and sit raised or distinct-sebaceous filaments lie flush with the skin.
