Welcome to Day 9 of UK Black History Month and my birthday month!

Today, we honour Olive Morris (1952–1979), a formidable civil rights and community activist based in Brixton and Manchester.

Olive spent her life fighting for housing rights, youth empowerment, and equal access to essential resources for Black women. Her legacy is a reminder of how crucial it is for young Black women to have access to the knowledge, spaces, and support they deserve.

That mission to break down barriers to care connects so deeply to my Hairconn 26 model, Monique!
Years ago, I was one of Monique’s basketball coaches when she was first learning how to play.

Fast forward to recently when I was searching for a model: my daughter suggested a friend of hers. Little did Monique know that her friend’s mum was her old coach and hair specialist, and little did I know my daughter’s friend was Monique!

Monique sat in my chair at 19 years old for her very first professional hair appointment. She was 19 when she was finally taught how to care for and style her own natural hair. Let that sink in.

So many people spend years searching in frustration for what works for their texture. I have relieved Monique of that struggle, and with her new Innersense Organic Beauty clean chemistry routine, her curls are going to continue to flourish.

For Day 4 of UK Black History Month and my birthday month, we are celebrating a pioneer of innovation and smart design alongside a personal love letter to the equipment that keeps my studio and I thriving!

Today, we honour Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, a prodigy in computer science who passed A-level computing at just 11 years old and earned a Master's degree from Oxford University at 20. As co-founder of Stemettes, she has spent her career inspiring young women to excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Her life’s work proves that when you harness smart engineering and technology, you transform how people live and work.

This appreciation for clever, functional engineering is exactly why I choose to work with Takara Belmont!

Yesterday at Salon International London Excel, I collaborated with Takara Belmont for the second year running.

Those who visit my studio know how luxurious their chairs feel, but for me as an educator and stylist living with ME, smart design is personal. Between sourcing my hair models for London Excel and running for my train AGAIN, I almost forgot to post today!

For Day 3 of UK Black History Month and my birthday month, we are honouring Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE, a leading space scientist, mechanical engineer, and co-presenter of the BBC’s flagship astronomy programme, The Sky at Night.

Dr Maggie has spent her career breaking barriers in STEM, studying the mechanics of space, and showing that every star in the universe has its own distinct, unique composition.

That individual uniqueness is just as true when it comes to natural hair!

Today, I am showcasing Ariella’s hair, who happens to be Anaya’s sister! It is extremely common for sisters to have completely different curl textures, densities, and hydration needs, with each pattern being as beautiful and unique as the other.

This is just the beginning of Ariella’s personal hair journey so we kick started her off with Innersense's detox mask, and I am so looking forward to watching her curls flourish with time, proper home care, and love.

To kick off UK Black History Month and my birthday month, I am celebrating the legacy of incredible Black British women alongside our beautiful studio guests!

Today, we honour Mary Seacole (1805–1881) a pioneering British-Jamaican nurse and businesswoman. Overcoming severe institutional barriers, she travelled independently to the Crimean War to set up the "British Hotel", providing medical care, hot meals, and compassionate support to soldiers on the front lines.

Her legacy of resilience, holistic care, and dedication to well-being remains an endless inspiration.
