She Rarely Wears Gel Polish — So Why Did Onycholysis Appear?

This client only has gel polish for holidays, but she still developed onycholysis — when the nail starts separating from the nail bed.

In her case, I think the main reason could be the natural shape of her toenails. They grow wider at the sides, and as the nails get longer, the corners lose support and can be pressed by closed shoes.

Can we cover onycholysis with gel polish? This is still a controversial question. Many podologists and Foot Health Practitioners prefer to avoid gel because it may increase pressure or make the nail curve more.

Regular nail polish may be a safer option. I’m also planning to test nail wraps and share an honest review before the closed-shoe season.

Have you ever had onycholysis on your toenails?

This tiny corn was much deeper than it looked!

Today I’m removing a deep corn during a medical pedicure. Because it grows deep into the skin like a cone, I first remove it carefully with cuticle nippers and then finish the remaining core with a flame bit.

Using only an e-file would take longer, create more dust and may cause heat or a burning sensation.

Corns are often confused with verrucas, but they require different treatment. If you’re unsure what you have, it’s better to have it checked by a specialist.

My clients, please don’t lose me!

Like It was my first beauty salon project in England and my first experience running a salon here.

But I haven’t worked there for more than six months. I now have a new salon and a new project called Selfie Beauty.

I’m still growing and looking for the format that works best for me, so I don’t think this is my final project or final format.

You can find my booking links on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. Or search Nadia Nails Laser or Selfie Beauty on Google.

Why are pastel nail colours so difficult to apply?

Pastel shades can easily look streaky, uneven or too thick. The secret is in the preparation: a matching base colour, a perfectly smooth nail surface and thin reinforcement.

In this Reel, I’m sharing my tips for creating smooth and even pastel nails without extra thickness or bumps.

Would you choose pastel nails for your next manicure?

Ingrown toenails? Nail packing can help — and it’s free with your pedicure!

If the corners of your toenails keep pressing into the skin, nail packing may help reduce the pressure and stop the corners from growing further into the sidewalls.

I carefully clean around and underneath the nail, remove the dead skin and place soft LIGASANO material under the problem corner. It often stays in place until your next appointment.

Nail packing is included free when needed during your pedicure at Selfie Beauty by Nadia in Cambridge.

If you’re looking for help with curved or ingrown toenails, book your pedicure through the link in our bio or send us a message.

A cleaner and easier way to apply pearl chrome nails ✨

I used to rub chrome powder in with my glove, but it was messy and the powder got everywhere. Now I use a small sponge: first I tap the chrome onto the nail, then gently rub it in.

You don’t need a warm top coat. Just clean the nail well, let it dry and apply the chrome.

Don’t forget to cover it with a base coat so it doesn’t chip.

Would you try this method?

It’s not just dry skin.

This is localized hyperkeratosis on the big toe. It usually develops because of friction inside the shoe. When shoes are slightly too narrow and feet become sweaty, the skin thickens and eventually develops rough, painful cracks.

For this type of lesion, I don’t use a scalpel. During a Medical Pedicure, I gently remove the hyperkeratosis using Smart Pedicure discs—starting with a disposable 100-grit disc and finishing with 180-grit for a perfectly smooth result.

Treatment is only half of the solution. Finding the right shoes and controlling excessive foot moisture will help prevent it from coming back.

One broken nail can tell you a lot about the technique.

These nails were done at another salon. After just one week, the gel came off the client’s working index finger.

While removing the old product, I could immediately see why. The nails were done using an old-school technique—no structure, no reinforcement, just a thin base coat and colour.

To be fair, this technique often works, and many clients get around three weeks of wear. But working fingers usually show the first signs of weakness.

At Selfie Beauty Cambridge, we use Russian Manicure with proper cuticle preparation and hard gel structure. This creates stronger nails, improves retention and helps reduce lifting and breakage.

I recently switched to Dana Gel .professional and I honestly didn’t expect this level of retention.

My clients came back after 4–5 weeks with no lifting and no breaks. That’s exactly the result every nail technician wants.

The consistency is another big plus—not too thick, not too runny, making it comfortable and easy to work with, and also this is TPO free

Have you tried Dana Gel yet? 💅
