Filler: separating fact from fiction

There’s a lot of noise around dermal filler, so let’s clear some of it up.

Myth: Filler is permanent.
Fact: Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are gradually broken down by the body over time. How long results last depends on the product, the area treated and the individual.

Myth: Once it’s in, you’re stuck with it.
Fact: HA filler can be dissolved by a qualified medical professional if needed. That’s one reason choosing an experienced, medically trained practitioner matters.

Myth: Filler always looks obvious.
Fact: The “overfilled” look usually comes from too much product or poor placement, not from filler itself. A thorough assessment and a measured approach lead to results that look like you, just refreshed.

Myth: There’s no downtime.
Fact: Swelling, tenderness and bruising can happen and usually settle within days. Your practitioner should talk you through what to expect before and after treatment.

Myth: Anyone can do it.
Fact: Ask about your practitioner’s medical background and training, and how they would manage a complication. A good one will welcome the question.

▫️Don’t touch: Resist the urge to touch or massage the treated area-let your fillers settle.

▫️Skip the Sun: Avoid sun exposure and heat for a few days to prevent irritation and swelling.

▫️ Drink water : Keep your skin looking plump and fresh by drinking plenty of water.

▫️No Makeup: Give your skin a break and avoid wearing makeup for 24 hours to let it heal.
