BISH BASH BOSH… Come join our pots and pan band! 🎶

Today in Penguin’s we have had such a loud morning, we have been making our own band using the pots and pans to make so much noise! We used the music sticks and the spatula’s to tap and bang the pans making super loud sounds and also some quiet sounds too. The children had great fun getting involved and making so many sounds and working as a team to make lots of different sounds of all different types too. We had so much fun making a range of sounds and the ladies spoke about how we can make loud sounds banging the pans hard and how we can make softer sounds by just tapping the pans too. This activity allowed the children to experiment with sound and get creative when making their sounds too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to experiment with the sounds, use the pans to get creative too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of different pots and pans for the children to use alongside showing and demonstrating to the children different ways to make the sounds etc. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to explore different sounds, making so many different ones, before also getting creative with the sounds they were creating too.

All in all we have had a fabulous morning making music using the pots and pans and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Welcome to our kitchen! 🧑‍🍳

Today in Penguin’s we have been super busy cooking up a storm for all our friends and ladies, this activity has led on from the children’s interest in imaginative play and the play kitchen too. Throughout the children used the play dough and loose parts and create some yummy food for each other, where they made pancakes all the way to chicken nuggets and pizza too. Throughout we spoke about what we were cooking, how we could cook it and why we use different items in the kitchen too. The children were able to let their imagination run wild and express themselves through the items they were cooking too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to get imaginative, express themselves and use loose parts to do so. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of loose parts to use as well as play dough and kitchen utensils too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to express their imagination, explore and use loose parts and of course have fun!

All in all we have had a fabulous day in the kitchen and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Owls Tea Party ☕️✨

Today in Owls we enjoyed a Gruffalo’s tea party, following on from the interests of child DRJ. The children were invited to explore the play-dough, what they could make with it and different textures. We used the play-dough to enhance our hand movements, focusing on smaller movements with our fingers which will help the children on their journey to writing. They experimented with different tools with the play-dough, and spoke about making cakes, tea and even mashed potatoes.
Children were encouraged to choose their tools, plan their ideas and enjoy a tea party with the Gruffalo. We talked about all of the different animals that we could see, what sounds they might make and where we could find them- we also enjoyed reading the Gruffalo’s Child story and lots of bathe children joined in with the words.

The intent of this activity was to give the children freedom and creativity to make different things with the play-dough, whilst also focusing on fine motor skills- developing the skills that they will need to start writing and forming words.

The ladies set up a picnic blanket, our Gruffalo friends, lots of play-dough, pots, pans and kitchen utensils. The children explored fitting the play-dough into different places, using utensils to mix, stretch and cut the play-dough and make their creations.

The impact of this activity was developing fine motor skills, pinching, squashing and twisting the play-dough, whilst also developing their communication, language and literacy skills, telling us all what they were making, what the like to eat and drink and joining in with the story.

Ducklings🐥

Loose Parts Mania🧩🔗🗝️

Today in Ducklings we have been busy exploring the world of loose parts, looking at the different sizes and textures of them and counting them too. The intent of this activity came from Child MB interest in loose parts and putting them in and out of the cups, this is called a containment schema. The ladies implemented this by providing children with objects such as conkers, wooden planks, pine cones and curtain rings. The children used their fine motor skills to pick up the objects and place them in the cups. They then picked up the cups and tipped the loose parts out. They did this repeatedly. The impact of this activity allowed the children to explore different loose parts following our ethos of the curiosity approach as well develop their interests. They were also able to work on the following developing areas;

Owls Construction Site 🧱✨

Today in Owls we explored construction, building and mathematical thinking. The children were invited to work with crates, wooden blocks, tubes and loose parts to design and build their own structures. They experimented with stacking, balancing, connecting and arranging materials, discovering what makes a structure strong, tall or stable.
Children were encouraged to choose their own resources, plan their ideas and work together to build towers, houses, bridges and obstacle courses. We introduced measuring tapes and rulers, supporting them to compare heights, lengths and widths, and to talk about size.

The intent of this activity was to give children freedom to explore construction creatively, practise problem‑solving, and develop early maths skills such as measuring, estimating and comparing. It also aimed to use communication and teamwork, encouraging children to share ideas, negotiate roles and collaborate on builds they were making.

The ladies set up a large construction area with crates, wooden blocks, tubes, tyres and measuring tools. Children were invited to explore the materials, test out different ways of building and talk about what they wanted to create. We spoke about the weights of objects and if they would balance when being placed and supported them to measure their structures using tape measures.

The impact of this activity was developing mathematical understanding, physical skills, creativity and teamwork. They practised measuring, comparing and estimating, and gained real‑world understanding of balance, weight and stability. They communicated their ideas, negotiated roles and supported one another during shared builds and trying on the builders accessories.

Threading with Penguin’s🧵

Today in Penguins’s we have been busy developing our hand and eye coordination by threading different items onto the stick one by one, we were also exploring what different patterns we could make too. This led on from the children’s interest in using their fine motor skills throughout their play. Whilst taking part in this the children were able to concentrate and use their hand and eye coordination to thread the items on to the stick with good control. The children also used their counting to count up all the different items they had placed on the stick too. We spoke about ways we could thread the items and ways to make it easier for us too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children develop their fine motor skills, alongside their hand and eye coordination and counting. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of different items for the children to thread of different sizes too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their hand and eye coordination, counting, and mathematics too.

All in all the children had a fabulous day Threading and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later. 🥰

Let’s talk about us! 🗣️🧑‍🧑‍🧒

Today in Penguin’s we have been talking about us, our feelings and our families too! This led on from our interest in our family photo books and the emotions spoons the ladies recently made for us. The children were able to explore all the different families all look at the different range of families we have here in Penguin’s, the children also looked for themselves and named their family members too. We used the emotion spoons to express our feelings and to learn the different faces we may pull following how we feel. We used the emotion books to help us learn about emotions and ways of dealing and using our emotions. Throughout this was a great opportunity for the children to learn ways of managing their emotions positively and expressing them too. We also had great fun looking at our family photos and talking about our family!

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to express their emotion and learn about those around us too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of resources for the children to see and use throughout. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to learn about emotions and how we can express them too.

All in all we have had a fabulous day exploring our family photo books and expressing our emotions, we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Owls Face Art🎨☺️

Today in Owls we explored emotions and making faces, where the children were invited to look at themselves in the mirror, talk about how they were feeling and different emotions and make faces with paper plates, googly eyes and loose parts. They were encouraged to choose which loose parts they wanted to use,using different parts as eyes, nose and mouth, whilst using their own face to compare how their loose part face should look. We also spoke about how each of the children were feeling, and how we might show these emotions, crying if we are sad or smiling if we are happy.

The intent of this activity was to give the children freedom to explore creatively, using the loose parts to make different faces, practise communication and social skills, asking each other questions about how we were feeling and communicating how we were to one another and encouraged them to make independent choices about how to make our faces.

The ladies implemented this by setting up a mirror, lots of paper plates, loose parts and emotion stones. Children spoke about how they were feeling, what they thought each other might be feeling and what makes them all feel happy! We explored lots of different loose parts as facial features and counted how many of each feature we have and how many loose parts we needed for these.

The impact of this provocation was clear in the children’s developing social and emotional development, learning how to communicate their feelings and the best ways to ask one another how they were feeling. They also built real‑world understanding through creative play, exploring their own faces, emotions, what makes others happy or sad and we even spoke about using kind hands and how that makes others feel.

Ducklings 🐥

Welcome to our animal park 🐘 🦒 🐴 🐑

Today in ducklings we have been exploring a wide range of different animals, from zoo animals to farm animals, following on from our interest on the ladies making animal noises with us whilst singing “old McDonald had a farm…” and several of our friends repeating these noises.

Through this activity the children were able to explore the animals and the different obstacles, paths and ramps in a way which best suited them and their interests and abilities.

Supporting our physical skills we banged the animals on the wooden board, walked them across the bridge and pushed them down the ramps.
We shared different animal stories with the ladies where we particularly enjoyed feeling the different textures and lifting the flaps to see who was hiding underneath supporting our communication and language development aswell as our physical development too.
We showed the ladies the different animals, picking them up one by one for them to tell us what they were and the noises they made. Child AB repeated the names of some of the animals and attempted to make some of the animal noises too, again supporting our communication and language skills, aswell as our personal, social and emotional skills as we looked for support from our ladies.
