Clinic catch up Wednesday looks a little different today. The wonderful Amanda worked with me today as nurses are off on holidays (I also love that they value my work and want to make sure I always have a nurse, which I know it is how it should be, but I’m so grateful that the practice manager put herself forward and worked with me for that reason. That is team work 🧡). She then reminded me how I started working at . Incase it helps anyone else I thought I’d mention it because it isn’t the normal way to get a job
Clinic catch up Wednesday. Basically me rambling on at the camera.
Have you ever thought of side referring to a colleague? Ofcourse the preferred pathway would be referring to a perio specialist or DWSI, but in cases where this isn’t possible for whatever reason, another option is referring to a colleague for another set of eyes and a clinical opinion. Faye has worked alongside periodontal specialists and is incredibly skilled, so I didn’t hesitate to recommend a referral to her as another option for Step 3. To be clear though- this is not an alternative treatment modality to the periodontal specialist/DWSI. That option should always come first. They are simply put, another clinician who may be able to help manage residual disease/sites that have not responded as expected after a couple of courses of treatment.
..: decided to change it up a little bit so I could get home and watch the football.
Thanks to my wonderful locum nurse Jess today. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you. If anyone wants to learn while they earn, come and locum for me on a Weds afternoon 😆😉
… as promised Wednesday is clinic catch up day and what clinic taught me.
I had 2 cancellations (I’m assuming because there’s a heat wave and it made me chuckle to think they’re probably sat having a corona and bbq and living their best life. But hey, I had air con so I was happy to be at work today)
I PROMISE I’ll have some complex perio cases or complex medical histories/ risk profiles soon. I seem to have had a couple of weeks with some easy well maintained and stable patients with no medical history interactions or risk factors- sod’s Law that happens when I start this series. I’m sure I’ve jinxed myself for next week though and I’ll be thankful I have weeks like today. I have 3 new patients next Wednesday who I’ll be risk profiling and starting from scratch, so I’ll talk you through that when it happens.
I hope these are helpful. It’s hard squeezing a days work into a reel so I hope the brief and anon overview is enough to learn things from.
Feel free to DM me and if you comment, this is for educational purposes to help newly qualified and colleagues in isolated roles, so be kind

How are you 16? 😱
I love you so much. I am so unbelievably proud of you and the young man you are becoming Evan. You’re a joy. We won the lottery with you ❤️
Hi Dental Besties.
So being a hygienist or therapist can be a lonely isolated profession. I wonder if this sort of post might be helpful, especially for you new grads (congrats btw) who may not have seen a hygienist working in day to day practice.
I’m thinking of making this a Wednesday thing! What do we think? More like this or not?
PS- putting yourself out there like this is pretty daunting I have to say, and I don’t claim to know it all. I’m always learning too. Let’s chat in the comments ☺️ kindness only
