“Cornrows had never really clicked for Lydia.”

Not because she wasn’t capable. She simply needed to see the technique broken down visually, practise it with guidance and understand what her hands were supposed to be doing.

As a visual learner, Lydia found it helpful to watch each demonstration both in front of her and on screen before replicating it on her mannequin.

During the Braid Beginner Workshop, she began understanding:

How to start a cornrow

How to create cleaner sections and partings

How to use her tail comb and gel effectively

How strong foundations can unlock so many different hairstyles

She left the workshop ready to buy her own mannequin head and continue practising at home. That is exactly the kind of confidence I want every student to take away.

Perhaps you have watched countless tutorials, but your fingers still become confused.

Perhaps you want to style your own natural hair or confidently braid your child’s hair.

Or perhaps you are a complete beginner who needs patient, practical and visual guidance.

You do not need to know how to braid before you arrive. You come to learn.

The next Braid Beginner Workshop takes place on:

📅 Sunday 18 October

📍 Bishopbriggs, Glasgow

Small-group, hands-on teaching

Complete beginners welcome

If Lydia’s experience sounds like the kind of support you need, comment “BEGINNER” below and I’ll send you the details.

Prefer to ask privately? DM me “BEGINNER” and we can talk about whether the workshop is right for you.

The shift I wasn’t prepared for as an Afro Hair Specialist?

Realising that the more you learn, the more you see how much more there is to understand.

Project Afro Team Day 5 took us to Sorbie at the House of Keune, where we spent the day with Stephen Debellotte exploring texture management, the STS system, silk pressing and how Afro-textured hair responds through each stage.

Theory became practice, we worked hands-on with our models, and the results were beautiful but for me, the biggest takeaway was understanding the why behind the process.

Sorbie at the House of Keune looked after us so well too, the snacks, fruit and drinks did not go unnoticed. 😂

Huge thank you to Stephen, our mentors, my Project Afro teammates, our models and the entire team who made the day what it was.

POV: You’re nervous about trying caramel braids… and then you see the colour and immediately think, “Yep. That’s me.” 😍

That was Adeline.

She came in wanting something a little different for Reggaeland, something fun, warm and full of personality.
We decided on medium bra-length box braids with a gorgeous caramel and brown colour blend.

Now… Adeline was a little unsure about stepping away from what she was used to.

But the minute she walked in and saw the caramel shade?

She loved it.

And once the finished braids were in, there was absolutely no going back. 😂

The hair flicks in this Reel tell you everything you need to know.

What made this appointment even lovelier is that Adeline has been coming to me for years, so our appointments are never just about doing her hair.

There’s always plenty of catching up, laughter and good conversation along the way.

And THIS colour on her? Beautiful.

Sometimes the shade you’re most nervous to try ends up being the one that makes you wonder why you waited so long. 🤎

Thinking about trying a different braid colour but unsure what will suit you?

Fuller braids aren’t always better for your hair.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a beautifully full result. But the amount of extension hair your natural hair can safely support depends on your:

• hair density

• hairline

• strand strength

• chosen length and weight

Sometimes, protecting your edges means adjusting the size, length or number of braids and that doesn’t mean sacrificing a beautiful finish.

At Beauty Splendour, I don’t only consider how your braids will look on day one. I consider the condition I want your natural hair and edges to be in when the braids come out.

So, be honest: maximum fullness today or healthier edges long-term, which would you choose?

Thinking about braids but unsure what would suit your hair?

Apparently, it’s kinda chic to build a life around the things you once only hoped would be possible.

Running Beauty Splendour has never just been about doing hair.

It’s been about creating, teaching, learning, travelling, meeting incredible people, making mistakes, trying again, painting salon walls 😂, building confidence and creating a space where people feel genuinely cared for.

Some chapters have looked glamorous.

Others have looked like me exhausted, covered in paint, answering enquiries at ridiculous hours. 😅

But I wouldn’t trade the journey.

Very grateful for what I’ve built so far and even more excited about what I’m still building.

Which slide feels the most “kinda chic” to you? 😂

POV: You need braids that can handle the pool, dinner plans and life after the flight home. ✈️

For Ava, we chose bra-length box braids in a custom blend of colours 4, 8 and 30, finished with curled ends for a softer look. 🤎

She wanted something beautiful, easy to manage while travelling and practical enough for swimming without spending her holiday worrying about her hair.

Because the right holiday braids shouldn’t only look good in the airport selfie.

They should work with your hair, your plans and your lifestyle, both while you’re away and after you return home.

And this colour blend on Ava? Absolutely stunning.

Planning a holiday at any time of year and unsure which braid style, length or colour would suit you?

Getting your hair braided is only the beginning.

A beautiful set of braids can reduce daily styling and give your natural hair a break but “protective style” doesn’t automatically mean your hair is protected.

What you do while wearing your braids matters too.

Your natural hair still needs moisture.

Your scalp still needs care.

Your edges still need protecting.

And knowing when to remove your braids is just as important as choosing the style in the first place.

One of the biggest things I try to teach my clients at Beauty Splendour is that healthy braiding is about more than how the finished style looks.

It’s also about:

appropriate extension weight

comfortable tension

your hair density and condition

your scalp and hairline

good aftercare

removing the style at the right time

Because I don’t want your braids to simply look beautiful on day one.

I want the hair underneath them to still be healthy when they come out.

Save this carousel before your next braid appointment and send it to someone who thinks braids mean they can forget about their hair for 8 weeks. 😂

If you’re unsure which braid style, size, length or weight would suit your hair,

DM “BRAIDS” or book a consultation through the link in my bio.
