You do not need to be a hairdresser to learn braiding

So many people think they are “bad at braiding” because they’ve tried a few times, watched YouTube tutorials, got frustrated and gave up.

But most beginners are not bad at braiding.

They just haven’t been taught properly.

In my Braid Taster Workshop, we focus on the foundations that make braiding finally start to make sense:

✔ sectioning

✔ hand positioning

✔ grip

✔ confidence

✔ practice without pressure

Because braiding is a skill.

And like any skill, it becomes easier when someone breaks it down properly and gives you space to learn.

This workshop is perfect if you’re:

a complete beginner

a mum wanting to learn your child’s hair

someone who has always wanted to braid

tired of guessing from YouTube tutorials

curious about whether braid training is for you

You do not need experience to start.

You just need to start properly!

Becoming Whole 🖤

This final look brings the Becoming Collection together.

Each model carries a different part of the story; the softness, the strength, the joy, the boldness, the freedom, the power, the parts of ourselves we are learning to stop hiding.

For me, Becoming has never been about arriving perfect.

It is about allowing every version of yourself to exist.

The fierce version.

The playful version.

The soft version.

The visible version.

The woman who is still learning, still growing, still taking up space.

This collection is a reminder that you do not have to choose one version of yourself to be accepted.

You are allowed to become all of you.

A massive thank you to the incredible team who helped bring this vision to life.

To the models, makeup artist, photographer, studio, styling support, and every single person who poured their creativity, time, energy and heart into this collection. I am so deeply grateful.

Salon appointments can add up, I get it.

Especially when you’re constantly trying to find someone you trust with your child’s hair, your own hair, or protective styling that actually feels comfortable.

That’s why learning to braid is such a powerful skill.

It can save you money.

It can save you time.

It can give you more confidence at home.

And for some people, it can even become a skill that brings in extra income.

Because once you learn the foundations properly, braiding stops feeling like this impossible thing that only “hair people” can do.

You start to understand:

✔ sectioning

✔ hand positioning

✔ grip

✔ technique

✔ how to practise with confidence

If you’re curious and want to try braiding first, my Braid Taster Workshop is the perfect starting point.

And if you’re ready to go deeper, my Braid Beginner Workshop is coming up on 6th September.

Your braids should not hurt.

Let’s normalise saying that clearly.

If you leave every braid appointment with a headache, tight scalp, sore edges or discomfort that lasts for days… that is not the standard.

Tight does not mean neat.

Pain does not mean professional.

And discomfort should never be seen as the price you pay for beautiful braids.

A good braid install should protect your hair, respect your scalp and feel comfortable during and after your appointment.

Because healthy protective styling should actually protect.

At Beauty Splendour, my approach has always been rooted in care, comfort and healthy hair first.

Yes, your braids should look beautiful.

But they should also feel good.

If you’re looking for pain-free braids in Glasgow,

“I’m not a hairdresser… but I know what I’m doing now.” 👏🏾

This is exactly why I love teaching beginner braid workshops.

So many people come in thinking:

“I can’t braid.”

“I’m not a hairdresser.”

“My hands just don’t work that way.”

“I’ve tried YouTube and I still don’t get it.”

But most of the time, you don’t need more pressure.

You need someone to break it down properly.

You need to understand the foundations.

You need to see where you’ve been going wrong.

And you need space to practice without feeling judged.

That’s what this student experienced in class.

She said it was hard and honestly, that’s normal.

Braiding is a skill.

But by the end, she understood the foundations, knew what she needed to practise, and left feeling so much clearer and more confident.

That is the win! 🏆

You do not need to be a hairdresser to start learning.

You just need to start properly.
