💅 A little nail-industry myth busting after watching ITV

I was really disappointed to hear the suggestion that when choosing where to have your nails done, a bigger salon is somehow a safer or better choice than a small independent nail technician.

The size of a business does NOT determine the standard of the nail service you receive.

A beautiful big salon can have excellent standards.
A one-person independent studio can have excellent standards.

And equally, poor practice can happen in either.

What actually matters?

✨ Is your nail technician properly trained?
✨ Do they follow good hygiene and infection-control procedures?
✨ Are tools cleaned/disinfected appropriately between clients?
✨ Do they use professional products correctly and follow manufacturers’ instructions?
✨ Do they understand nail anatomy, contraindications and allergies?
✨ Do they avoid unnecessary damage to the natural nail?
✨ Do they consult with you and actually look at the condition of your nails before starting?
✨ Are they insured and working within the treatments they’re trained to provide?

Those are the questions clients should be encouraged to ask — not “How big is the salon?”

Many independent nail technicians invest thousands of pounds and countless hours into training, products, insurance, education and creating safe environments for their clients.

Some of us deliberately stay small because we WANT to offer a personal, one-to-one service.

Being independent doesn’t mean being unprofessional.

Being small doesn’t mean being unsafe.

And having a large premises or several members of staff doesn’t automatically guarantee higher standards.

Please choose your nail technician based on their training, hygiene, knowledge, products, working practices and the care they show your natural nails — not the size of the building they work from. 💅

Small independent beauty businesses deserve better than to be casually portrayed as the lesser or riskier option.

We aren’t “less than” big salons.

We’re professionals and business owners too

🔑 AHHHH I’M GETTING MY KEYS TODAY!! 😭😍

I wasn’t supposed to be getting them until tomorrow, but my landlady has just told me I can collect them A DAY EARLY!!

So at 4pm TODAY I’ll officially have the keys to my salon 😭🔑✨

I honestly can’t believe I’m finally saying that!!

I’ve spent so long planning everything, buying things, choosing colours and imagining how it’s all going to look… and TODAY I actually get to start making it happen! 🥹
