Let’s talk about how the face ages laterally
Lateral facial aging refers to the widening, flattening, and loss of structural support along the sides of the face, specifically the temples, outer cheeks, and jawline, caused by bone resorption and the shifting of fat compartments.
Key Causes of Lateral Aging
Bone Remodeling: The outer (inferolateral) edges of the eye sockets and the jawbone resorb over time, reducing the bony foundation that holds the skin outward.
Fat Redistribution: Fat pads in the midface and temples shrink or slide downward and outward, causing the sides of the face to look hollow or wider in unintended areas like the jowls.
Ligament Laxity: Retaining ligaments on the lateral face stretch out, meaning they can no longer anchor skin tightly against the sides of the skull

This has to be one of the most touching moments of my aesthetics career so far 🩶
I first met this lovely lady while I was caring for her mum in the community.
At the time, she was giving so much of herself to everyone else and had very little time for herself — something I think so many women can relate to.
During one of my visits, we got chatting and I mentioned that I had my own aesthetics clinic, which was why I only worked in the community as and when I could.
I had only met her twice.
Fast forward some time later, and a lady booked in with me for a consultation.
When she got out of the car, I instantly thought, “I know you from somewhere…”
So I asked her.
She smiled and said, “Yes, you looked after my mum. I remember you telling me about your clinic, and I knew that when I was ready, I would find you.”
That honestly meant so much to me.
From that first consultation, we talked through her concerns, the different options available and what would work best for her. She put her trust in me and has been so open to everything I’ve recommended.
We started with treatments and also introduced a consistent skincare routine at home.
Four weeks later, she came back to clinic for her next appointment and I was genuinely speechless.
She looked AMAZING.
But it wasn’t just her skin.
When she first came to see me, she seemed a little lost. She had been through the heartbreak of losing her mum and her confidence had taken a knock.
This time, she walked in glowing.
She looked happier, more confident and, most importantly, like she had started to find a little bit of herself again.
She told me it was all down to me.
But my answer will always be the same…

You invested in your skin.
You stayed consistent.
