PLOT TWIST: the hair extension expert can’t currently wear her own hair extensions. 🫠

I’ve lost a significant amount of my natural hair, particularly around my temples and sides. Right now, it feels too thin and fragile for me to safely put my extensions back in and wear them full-time.

So, as much as I miss them, I’m choosing the health of my natural hair over the confidence boost my extensions give me.

I won’t pretend this hasn’t affected me. Hair is a huge part of how I express myself, my extensions have been part of my identity for years, and navigating this while working within the hair industry has been incredibly humbling. 😭

But instead of hiding it until I have a perfect “before and after,” I want to document it from the beginning… the investigations, blood tests, nutrition, supplements, products, lifestyle changes, progress and inevitable setbacks.

I believe stress, tension and a period of not nourishing myself properly may have all contributed, but I’m investigating rather than assuming there is one simple cause.

For now, I’m giving my hair the patience, protection and compassion I would tell any client to give theirs.

If you’re experiencing thinning or hair loss too, you are not alone. This can happen to anyone, even the hair extension expert. 🤍

So welcome to my hair recovery diary. 🥹

What part of the journey would you like me to share first: my products, supplements, daily smoothie or the changes I’m making to my extension wear? 👇🏻 if I can help anyone else not feel alone if they’re experiencing the same then even that’s a win for me x

Natural wavy hair extensions using hand tied wefts 🪡 I’m honestly loving that so many of us are choosing to embrace our natural textures, waves and curls

STOP FIGHTING WHAT YOU WERE BORN WITH AND INSTEAD, ADDING TO IT!

My clients hair is naturally wavy and she wants to embrace the texture and waves and we are also on a hair health journey so by having extensions that match her natural hair it means not having to use heat but still looking and feeling amazing. She will be able to air dry the extensions, or diffuse them and they will blend to her natural hair perfectly.

I used 3 hand tied wefts and some individual strands for the face frame area in 20” and then I added shaping and layering to really give the hair a natural look.

hairdressingby_char coloured our clients natural hair to match the extensions perfectly ✨

She’s really starting to take shape now 🥹 hopefully in around 3-4 weeks we will be starting to internals — we met with the interior designer and electrician yesterday to start mapping out the electrics ready for first fixing and it’s getting me excited!

This hair is something I dream about and obsess over and let me tell you why 👇🏻

When sourcing true Virgin Slavic hair from a trusted supplier it is the best hair money can buy, and I make a point of saying that because many places label hair ‘ Virgin Slavic ‘ as a marketing tool… but when it genuinely has never been touched in anyway - not coloured, not chemically altered, not manipulated, no stripping/removing of the cuticles, NOTHING, it’s the most dreamy hair you could have.

This hair is an investment which can last years and years with the correct aftercare and correct products.

This hair is very different to factory straight hair which has been through multiple journeys, hands, chemical processes and textile fabric dyes. (there is nothing wrong with this hair if it’s suited to the right person for example, you have naturally straight hair, or you style your hair straight/curled with irons all the time) but for someone with textured hair, wavy hair, curly hair, or who doesn’t want to continuously style their hair... factory straight hair isn’t suitable.

This virgin Slavic hair has been through two hands and then to me. The donor > the supplier > me.

To source this quality of hair - is hard. Every bundle of hair is rare, unique and can never be replicated and that is what I love.

The journey to get this hair is harder than just colour matching from a colour ring, placing an order and getting hair sent in a packet next day delivery, I had to source virgin Slavic hair to match my clients variety of colours, I had to make sure this hair would match her natural wave, her natural texture and her density, the hair then gets drawn making all the length of hair the same, getting rid of any short hairs, it then gets sent to me and I now create this hair into strands, whether that be keratin bonds or nano tips. This is a process but it’s so worth it. 🤍

The difference between 60grams of straight factory hair and 30grams of single donor wavy hair and why it’s important to understand…

Straight factory hair isn’t suitable for everyone, it has no movement, it doesn’t fluff at all, it’s very sleek and can feel heavy on the wrong client — this hair is best suited to people with naturally straight hair who don’t have any texture or movement.

Natural wavy hair that is from a single donor - you can see the difference in the strands, they are finer. You can see the volume it has due to its texture. You can see the natural wave and its movement, this hair is half the amount of the straight factory hair and yet it looks thicker.

More grams doesn’t always equal to thicker and better looking hair.

It’s about replicating the hair extensions as much as possible to your natural hair, so that it genuinely looks, feels, behaves and mimics your own hair whether it’s been left to air dry, blow dried, styled, your on holiday, it’s humid… everyday life.

If your hair is naturally dead straight with no texture and movement = straight factory hair is great for you.

If your hair is more on the straight side but it has slight movement and slight fluff to it = you need finer straighter hair with this exact movement and fluff.

If you have wavy or curly hair with different wave/curl patterns, different textures, you have finer hair but a lot of it, you have coarse hair, whatever the density, type and pattern = you need your hair extensions to replicate this.

And this comes down to knowledge, experience, expertise in all different densities, textures, hair patterns and a high skill set when it comes to hair extensions.

Hair extensions should look like your own hair, but better.

SALON BUILD | EPISODE 5

Ground floor and new loft conversion, I can’t show the first floor as we don’t have stairs yet and the scaffolding is blocking the first floor entry..

that fire in my belly is back in full force - I can’t wait to show the vision I have for my new salon space. We originally was only going to have the ground floor, and first floor but then we said f**k it let’s go up again and added the whole loft conversion into the plan too and now I can’t cope because I’m having dreams that the whole third floor is going to be where I stock some of the best hair on the market, which in return means same day transformations.

Something in me has switched and I want to seriously level up this year and next, I’m going to be offering full bespoke transformations, ordering virgin and Slavic hair in bulk loose pony tails and hand tipping and creating K tips and hand tied wefts!

This space will be the home of incredible artists offering everything you could need, a luxury space that you feel super comfortable in, a space where I can transform your hair to a level and standard you have never experienced before and a space to train the new generation of extensionists too.

I’m 31 and i have been in this industry since i was 15, the truth is - you never stop growing, learning, failing, achieving and believing. My passion for this industry forever grows and I’m so excited for this next chapter.

‘Blending what’s added, into what’s yours’ + ‘your hair, but better’

These are things I say frequently and the reason why is because I can actually do that. I can source any hair extensions to match your natural hair perfectly and that comes down to —

• texture matching
• density matching
• hair pattern matching
• bespoke colour blends

If your hair is anything but straight and silky, then your always going to struggle with blending your natural hair to factory packet hair extensions that are dead straight and have been chemically altered and played around with, and that doesn’t matter how incredible the colour match is, it doesn’t matter how well the extensions are cut and layered.

You can’t fight what your mama gave you - so if your hair is straight but it’s fluffy and has very slight movement, extensions need to mimic this. If your hair is wavy with a few different wave patterns and it’s textured, extensions need to mimic this. If your hair is curly, with multiple curl patterns and some parts are fluffy, other parts are very defined, your extensions need to mimic this.

By mimicking extensions to your natural hair, this is what sets apart hair extensions looking like hair extensions, and it’s the thing that will make it the most believable that the hair has grown from your head. This is what allows you to wear it completely natural and left to air dry, or rough dried, or styled, whether it’s hot and humid, your only holiday, your at home and super busy, your doing the school run and didn’t have time.

Once you experience hair extensions in this way, you’re almost never satisfied when you return back to straight silky factory packet hair.
