Getting the nasal base and nostrils correct in Rhinoplasty is challenging at the best of times, this lovely gentleman had previous Rhinoplasty years ago with excessive lateral cruras resection leaving him with asymmetry and collapse at the nasal valve. He required revision open SeptoRhinoplasty with reconstruction of lower cartilages and tip equalising sutures by Mohiemen Anwar . Soft tissue envelop swelling in thick skin rhinoplasty needs regular care and patience. Three months post open SeptoRhinoplasty with marked improvement in rotation and projection of the tip and smoother dorsum. Certainly not all abroad surgeries are bad! Some have amazing results, but how about after care? Dealing with complications? Or even for those surgeons the sense of duty to ensure long term results are satisfactory. I always try to keep my relations with patients friendly and approachable, they know they have access for me whenever is required. I personally won’t be able to offer surgery to someone knowing that they are planning to be out of the country up to 6 weeks after surgery to ensure they at least get to see me one week and 6 weeks post surgery to ensure full recovery. Surgeons who opt to operate on patients traveling abroad for their surgery resort to measures like long term permanent taping and internal nasal prongs due to remote care and unpredictability factor, which is not a standard UK based practice. I do advise my patients to regularly tape their noses at night for up to a year after surgery depending on skin thickness, but I wouldn’t recommend long term use of nasal prongs.
