AI can now analyse over 1,000 variables in a single facial image. It can assess pigmentation, pore density, wrinkle depth and redness in seconds. And the headlines would have you believe it is about to replace the skincare professional entirely.

But here is what those headlines consistently leave out.

AI skin analysis is not the same as medical diagnosis. It evaluates visible skin features from a photograph. It cannot assess your hormonal profile, your gut health, your stress load or the cumulative lifestyle factors shaping how your skin behaves day to day. It cannot ask the questions that change the answer. It cannot sit with you in a consultation and notice the things that do not show up on a screen.

Skin is not a surface. It is a reflection of what is happening beneath it, and the most meaningful skincare decisions are made in the context of the whole person, not a single image.

A qualified practitioner brings something no algorithm can replicate: clinical judgement built on years of training, pattern recognition developed through thousands of consultations, and the ability to adapt their guidance in real time based on your individual biology, history and goals.

Technology has a role to play. But it is a supporting one.

In a space as saturated with noise as skincare, the most valuable thing you can invest in is not a smarter app. It is access to a smarter conversation - with someone who is genuinely qualified to have it.

Your heart is racing, your palms are sweaty, and the words you have been practising in the mirror have disappeared. Most of us were never taught how to speak in public. Still, we're expected to do it, and to perform confidence we may not have felt, in rooms and situations that do not always make it easy.

However, confidence - as public speaking and confidence coach Alice Deville, one of our panellists at our upcoming Limitless event - understands it, is not a performance. It is a practice. Something built gradually, through the relationship we develop with our own voice, our own presence and the way we choose to show up in the world.

The fear of speaking, whether in a boardroom, on a stage or in an everyday conversation, is rarely about the words. It is about the vulnerability of being seen. Of saying something that matters, and not knowing how it will land.

What changes that is not simply a technique - it is a deeper, more grounded relationship with authentic self-expression.

It's this message that we're bringing to Limitless: How to Look, Feel and Project a More Confident Self, on Wednesday 5th August at Soho House White City.

*Due to the nature of this event and its venue, attendance is by invitation only.
