The summer holidays are here... the perfect time to start thinking about October half-term! We are so delighted to be returning to The Courtyard Hereford for the NINTH time... we'll be performing our show CLARE & CORY SHARE A (GLORIOUS) STORY for ages 3+ on Thursday 29 October at 11am. It's packed with puppets and riddled with rhymes and we'd love to see you there! https://www.courtyard.org.uk/events/clare-cory-share-a-glorious-story/

WHERE’S THE CLASS BEAR?
Let us explain:
Jane shares her train (batteries not included)
Anmol shares his doll (wonky leg; mended several times)
Michael shares his cycle (a trusty three-wheeler)
Willow and Joe both have a go with a yo-yo
BUT
Clare NEVER EVER shares her pear
Until she loses the class bear (uh-oh)
Enter Cory
Can he save the day with a story?

“Finn’s first theatre show. He LOVED coming up to help, and was bouncing and grinning the whole time”
Finn, age 3, and Louise, godmother, Lyric Hammersmith

“It was so engaging that my little one remained focused for the whole play, even at such a young age. Thank you for making her very first visit to a theatre so special!”

The biggest of really big thank yous to The Mayor's Fund for London for the amazing treat of tickets to see Duran Duran at BST Hyde Park yesterday! A gorgeous day in this magical London park, and a brilliant band - long live Duran Duran! ❤️

It’s such a pleasure for us to partner with the Mayor’s Fund in the school holidays, performing our shows in community hubs all over the capital, and we believe providing enrichment activities is as essential as a good meal.

And thank you again for our own enrichment activity yesterday!

It's and we use some truly terrible ones in our show COMFORT, which is a sensitive new show for bereaved children and their families. We explore grief with humour and energy to highlight the importance of talking openly and honestly with children about death.

"A great performance and I thought the pitch and tone were sensitively handled and spot on. And of course the jokes were hilarious and added some needed light relief to a very painful subject"
Family, Child Bereavement UK event

"Very moving with nice amount of comedy. Also accurate with the feelings"

Beanie is eight when her beloved mum dies in a hospice, leaving her with tangled memories and a carefully knitted blankie for comfort. What do you do when someone you love so much has gone forever? Beanie must navigate a new way of living, with friends, classmates, and grown-ups unsure of how to behave with her.

But then the blankie goes missing at school. As Beanie's world unravels, can a tight-knit community help her deal with her grief?

There are also optional activities for afterwards, including creating a piece of patchwork art and making a pom-pom to take home or to add to our display. We are looking to partner with grief networks to provide additional support. Please get in touch if you'd like to know more about having this show at your primary school, community venue, or hospice to support grief education. We promise not to tell the joke about the really big pants...

Love Joe and Willow

Talking openly and honestly with children about death is never easy, but it’s so important 💙

We were really pleased to welcome Joe and Willow from Really Big Pants Theatre Company to St Michael’s Hospice for a truly special performance.

Their beautiful two-person show, Comfort, gently explores how we can support children through conversations about death and loss in a caring and honest way.

The performance was shared with young people supported by Hope at St Michael’s, in partnership with Hope Support Services, which offers tailored support for children and young people aged 5–25 when someone they love is seriously ill or has died.

It was described as thought-provoking and lovely, and afterwards everyone took part in a joyful craft activity making pom-poms to take home 🎨✨

Joe also shared how meaningful it was to visit St Michael’s, especially with family connections to Herefordshire, and she was taken by the “breathtaking view from the terrace”.

💬 These conversations can be some of the hardest we ever have as parents, grandparents, and carers, but they’re also some of the most important.

If you feel comfortable sharing, we’d love to know—what has helped you talk to children about grief or loss? Your experiences might really help someone else in our community who’s going through something similar 💙
