Hyperpigmentation is actually pretty easy to manage, although it’s a long game, once you understand the science behind it and why your melanocytes start going into overdrive.
Essentially, you want to target different stages of melanin production, whilst also avoiding the triggers that cause or worsen pigmentation.
I’ve suggested some of the ingredients that target these areas, along with some of the more common ones you’ll see recommended for pigmentation.
Of course, this isn’t medical advice, just general info. If you have hyperpigmentation, I’d recommend getting a professional consultation with a qualified clinician. I do offer this service too 🙄, but the main reason I recommend it is because generic advice doesn’t always work for everyone. Your pigmentation might have a different cause, and your skin might need a completely different approach.
It’s not quite vogue but I got asked 22 skincare related questions as a doctor and here’s my answers. We cover things from pigmentation, acne and overrated kincare. Bit ot a ditterent video trom me
know if you like these kind of videos or anything different from my usual explainer videos and I will be happy to incorporate them.

These are some products in my everyday routine that I will keep repurchasing as your friendly aesthetics doctor & GP! 💚
Four products, nothing complicated:
Cleanser: La Roche-Posay International Toleriane Foaming Gel, which I always have a spare of
Moisturiser: 일리윤(illiyoon) Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream, the one I’ve repurchased twice
Serum: La Roche-Posay Mela B3, for dark spots and uneven tone
SPF: Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Airyfit, with no white cast. My family keep stealing it.
A routine only works if you’ll actually use it every day, so I pick products that feel good on my skin and don’t irritate it.
Save this for later, and tell me which step you want a full breakdown of 👇🏾
This is my own routine and not personal medical advice. Skin varies, what works for me may not work for you, if you have pigmentation or a skin condition, get it assessed.
[skincare routine, doctor skincare routine, double cleanse, gentle foaming cleanser, ceramide moisturiser, skin barrier repair, dark spot serum, hyperpigmentation, niacinamide serum, Melasyl, sunscreen no white cast, Korean sunscreen, skin of colour]
The cleanser.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane foaming gel face cleanser. Leaves skin clean, fresh and not tight, and is best for sensitive skin and daily use. Used as part of a double cleanse.
The moisturiser.
ILLIYOON Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream. Rich but lightweight and creamy, good for dry and sensitive skin and for supporting the skin barrier. Repurchased twice.
The serum.
La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum with Melasyl, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. Helps fade dark spots and even skin tone. Suitable for all skin types, but the niacinamide concentration may be too much for some people so be careful!
The SPF.
Haru Haru Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen. Natural, lightweight finish with no white cast, sits well under makeup. My everyday SPF.

Not everything expensive is worth it, but these 6 are 💸 As an aesthetics doctor and GP, here’s my honest take on where your skincare money actually goes further.
Stabilised vitamin C, in clinic peels, prescription tretinoin, biostimulators, tinted SPF with a proper shade range, and a consultation before you start actives.
Save this for your next skincare shop and follow for evidence based skincare that works for all skin tones.
Do you agree? Did any of these surprise you?
