COULD PSILOCYBIN HELP PEOPLE QUIT SMOKING? 🍄🚬
A new randomised clinical trial from Johns Hopkins has produced some seriously interesting results.
82 adults who smoked ci******es were given either one dose of psilocybin or 8–10 weeks of ni****ne patches. Both groups also received the same 13-week cognitive behavioural therapy programme.
Six months later:
🍄 40.5% of the psilocybin group achieved biochemically verified prolonged abstinence.
🚬 10% of the ni****ne-patch group did.
That translated to more than six times the odds of prolonged abstinence in the psilocybin group. A separate measure found 52.4% of the psilocybin group were smoke-free in the previous seven days, compared with 25% using ni****ne patches.
The researchers suggest psilocybin may help disrupt deeply established patterns around to***co use — but exactly why it might work is still being investigated.
This was a small pilot trial of 82 people, and participants and researchers knew which treatment was being given. Psilocybin is also not currently an approved smoking-cessation treatment. The study used a controlled, supervised clinical setting alongside psychotherapy.
Still, the findings add to a growing area of research asking a fascinating question:

🇹🇭 THAILAND TIGHTENS CANNABIS CONTROLS
Thailand’s Cabinet approved a draft Cannabis Control Bill on 22 September, moving the country toward a stricter medical cannabis framework.
Existing cannabis shops can continue operating under their current licences, which expire progressively between 2026 and 2028. Businesses wishing to continue would need to meet new medical and licensing requirements.
The proposed law would introduce tighter controls on cultivation, sales and traceability.
Shops are NOT being ordered to close immediately. The bill still requires parliamentary approval.
