Summer blonde ➝ autumn brunette 🍂

Every autumn we switch things up, but because she’s naturally very fair, I don’t want to take her too dark.

We only went around a shade to a shade and a half deeper, adding lots of soft golden warmth with beige tones running through to give us that gorgeous dimensional brunette without it feeling heavy.

And the important bit… it’s all semi permanent.

Lowlights, a root melt and gloss were all we needed to completely change the feel of her colour.

So she gets her autumn brunette now, but when spring comes and she inevitably tells me she wants to be blonde again we haven’t got layers of permanent colour to battle through.

I think this might finally be the one 🤞

This grey blending journey has taken time.

My client is naturally much darker through the back and after years of traditional foils, that darker regrowth line was the bit she really struggled with.

So we’ve taken it slowly. Appointment by appointment I’ve stripped things back, softened the blonde and gradually got her used to seeing more of her natural colour coming through.

Today, for the first time, I added lowlights through the underneath in her natural pepper shade to enhance what she already has rather than covering it.

And I have to say, I think this is our best one yet.

There have been lots of conversations along the way and a lot of trust from her while we’ve worked out what feels right.

Fingers crossed this is the one 🤞

And if it isn’t? We’ll simply go back to traditional foils.

If she’s happy, I’m happy.

I’m here to show my clients there can be another way, but their hair will always be their choice 🫶🏻

An autumn glow up 🤎

Ffion last had her hair done at the end of January!

She would normally come around every 4 months, but after baby number 3 arrived a little earlier than planned, we needed to push this one back and give her time to settle into life with 3 babies.

Today we wanted to keep her brunette, but add some lightness back through it. Nothing too much, just enough to make a difference with soft pops of beige and lots of dimension.

I added spaced out teased weaves for really soft lightness, keeping plenty of her natural colour in between. I then used her natural at the root to keep everything soft and give her as much longevity as possible, finishing with a beige gloss for that shine.

And obviously, a good chop, keeping it one length so it still feels nice and thick.

Nearly 8 months between appointments and her colour still gave us something really lovely to work with.

Because realistically, not everyone wants to be back in the salon every 6–8 weeks. And you absolutely don’t have to be. 🤎

When you still want to be blonde… just not one colour blonde 🤍

Rachael’s brief is normally always the same, lived in but BRIGHT, with hardly any dimension.

This time she was ready for a change. She still wanted to feel really blonde, but wanted lots more dimension to break up that block colour and give her hair more movement.

So rather than adding more blonde, we actually added her natural colour back through, keeping the ends blonde and bringing the depth higher and lower in all the right places.

Then we kept that face frame BRIGHT. Finer right at the front and getting thicker towards the ear so you still get that proper pop of blonde around her face.

And honestly, as soon as we added that depth back in, her blue eyes just POPPED.

Sometimes adding more blonde isn’t what makes your blonde stand out… sometimes it needs a little bit of depth behind it 🤍

Sometimes you just want to be BLONDE 🤍

And this was one of those appointments.

No root melt, no adding loads of depth, we just wanted her bright, clean and blonde.

I took really tiny slices through the scalp to get as much brightness as possible whilst still keeping it soft, followed with a creamy pearl gloss for that extra shine and then a good chop because those ends were ready to go.

There’s definitely a place for lived in blondes, dimension and softer grow outs… but sometimes you just want to leave the salon feeling really bloody blonde 🤍

25 years of building my business whilst raising two little girls… & always wondering if I was doing enough of both.

I think mum guilt has probably followed me through most of it.

Working too much, wondering if I should be home more, feeling guilty when I was working and then worrying about work when I wasn’t .

But now they’re older, I look at them and think maybe I was looking at it all wrong.

Because while I was worrying about whether I was there enough, they were watching me.

Watching me work hard, earn my own money, build something for myself and keep going even when it wasn’t always easy.

And now Kaela’s doing hair extensions and Evie’s starting nails.

Whether they make careers out of it or never do it again doesn’t really matter to me.

What matters is that they know they can have something of their own. They can earn their own money, make their own choices and build whatever life they want.

And maybe all those years I spent worrying that working made me less present…

I was actually showing them something without even realising it…….🤍

Had your roots done 3 weeks ago… and they’re already back?

You know that feeling when you’ve only just had your colour done and you’re already looking in the mirror thinking I need my roots done again.

That harsh line is exactly what so many of my grey blending clients are fed up with.

Cover the grey.
It grows back.
Cover it again.

And before you know it you’re planning your life around a root appointment every 3/4 weeks.

But what if we stopped trying to cover every single grey hair?

Grey blending is about working with your natural hair rather than constantly fighting against it.

It doesn’t mean going completely grey and it definitely doesn’t mean you suddenly have to become blonde.

You can still feel like you. Brunette, blonde, dimensional, whatever suits you.

We’re just changing the way your colour grows out, so instead of that obvious solid line appearing a few weeks later, everything starts to blend much more softly.

Because for most of the women who sit in my chair, it’s not actually the grey they hate.

It’s how quickly they can see it.

Love being blonde but don’t have time for the maintenance?

This is exactly why I love lived in blonde.

Abbie LOVES being bright blonde, but with a toddler and another baby on the way, she also doesn’t want to be sat in my chair every 4–6 weeks having her roots done.

And she doesn’t need to be.

We actually go around 4 months between her appointments.

I keep the blonde brighter through the ends, add more depth underneath so we still get that lovely dimension, then everything gets softer and finer as we get towards the top.

We added a soft root melt to blur her natural darker root and finished with the creamiest pearl blonde.

So she still gets to feel really blonde, but without that harsh regrowth a few weeks later.

Because being low maintenance doesn’t have to mean going darker or giving up being blonde. It’s just about creating your colour in a way that works with your hair and your life.

And with a toddler and a baby on the way, 4 months between appointments sounds a lot better than 4 weeks.
