This beautiful lady came to me not really knowing exactly what she wanted, but knowing she felt like she needed a little something to lift and refresh her face.

This is where a full facial assessment is so important. Rather than focusing on one particular area, I look at how the face has changed as a whole.

As we age, we naturally lose volume from the facial fat compartments. These fat pads can gradually shrink, shift and lose some of their structural support. One of the areas where this can become particularly noticeable is the medial cheek.

As we move through our 30s and beyond, the medial cheek can become flatter and less projected. When we lose that mid-face volume and support, the lower face can begin to look heavier, and areas such as the nasolabial folds can become more noticeable.

This can also be accelerated by significant or dramatic weight loss, where volume is lost throughout the face.

So rather than simply trying to ‘fill the lines’, sometimes we need to replace what has been lost and rebuild the underlying support.

Here, using just 3ml of dermal filler strategically placed into the medial cheek and nasolabial folds, we were able to restore lost volume, create more support through the mid-face and soften the appearance of the lower face.

The result is a beautiful, refreshed and more lifted appearance — without changing her features or overfilling the face.

When someone comes to me and says they’re bothered by their under-eye hollowness, the first thing I’ll do is analyse the whole face, rather than immediately treating the under-eye area.

Sometimes the answer isn’t to put filler or a product directly into the hollow.

Here, I used just 0.5ml of dermal filler either side in the cheek to restore a small amount of lost volume and, more importantly, create support through the mid-face.

The medial and upper cheek play an important role in supporting the tissues of the face. As we lose volume with age, the cheek can become flatter and the tissues can descend, which can make the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek appear deeper and more hollow.

By strategically restoring volume in the cheek, we can help rebuild that underlying framework, improve the cheek-to-under-eye transition and create a more supported, lifted appearance to the mid and lower face — without necessarily putting filler directly underneath the eyes.

And this is why I always say: facial aesthetics is about analysing the face as a whole. ✨
