One of the most important complications every aesthetic practitioner needs to understand is a vascular occlusion (VO) following dermal filler.

A VO occurs when filler compromises blood flow within a blood vessel. Early recognition and appropriate action are critical.

⚠️ Early signs can include:
• Unusual or increasing pain
• Blanching or colour changes
• Mottled/reticulated skin
• Delayed capillary refill
• Coolness of the skin

💉 A real reminder of why aspirating matters 💉

This week during training, we had a positive aspiration before injecting filler

Thankfully, because the correct safety protocols were followed, the treatment was stopped immediately and the needle was repositioned before any filler was injected. This is exactly why we teach our students to never become complacent

A positive aspiration can indicate that the needle tip is within a blood vessel. While aspiration is not a guarantee of safety and doesn’t replace a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy or careful injection technique, it can provide an additional warning in some situations….

Patient safety will always come before speed or convenience.

At Blu Aesthetics Training Academy, our students don’t just learn how to inject they learn:
