I get asked all the time "what curl type am I?"

You aren't a "type" of anything. You have curls, they are you.

Curl typing is a standard that has been used for a years and often used to help for brands. Don't let it rule you and don't let it confuse you.

Yes, it can help as a guide : 1 is straight 4 is i tighter coil but most people have more than one shape of curl.

What really important is that you follow a good consistent process and technique for YOUR hair.

That means water- inside and out!

If your hydrated, your scalp is healthier and you produce healthier hair.

If you style very wet hair you will create "juicier" looking curls.

Locking that water in with your products like a gel for example and diffusing them dry will mean that they last.

REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT.

It doesn't need to be complicated but it does need to be consistent. Following a process is key, whatever shape your curls are!

What are you struggling with? How can I help you?

Hi! Just some thoughts from writing this morning πŸ’—

I never set out to be a "specialist" i wanted to be a better hairdresser.

I learnt about curls and I saw people differently. I had confidence in how I now cut and styled but most importantly I saw a need, a need from clients to have a choice of stylists who really understood their hair. A need to be able to choose a stylist near them not to have to search online and travel.

I hear these stories all the time, every week I meet someone who has travelled 20 miles or more to see a stylist who really gets their curls.

I really want this to be different, for them and for you.

I want them to find you πŸ’—

The next person looking for a stylist who understands their curls could be searching for you. Let's make sure they find you. πŸ’—

Drop ME in the comments or dm me, let chat about how we can work together to make you the hairdresser they are looking for.

I am blessed to work with incredible women everyday and it makes me truly happy. It really is such a wonderful thing to be able to create a space- not just for hair and you know i love hair.

It's bigger- it's the connections we make, the stories we tell. The tears we shed and sooo much laughter. We are incredible- we bring each other support, safety & security. We raise each other up, show our vulnerabilities, we believe in each other.

That is community. That's what I truly love and what really makes me happy. It's magical 🌟

Thank you for being part of it! Whether you're part of Hello You! Studio or in my wider world, i'm so grateful for you.

There are so many more people & pics to share πŸ’—

When we come together we are such a force- how beautiful πŸ’—

What does your community look & feel like?

4 years ago I began my deep dive into curls. I had been curious for a while. I knew deep down that my curl clients deserved more than they were getting. You know what I mean- I cut the hair the way I always cut hair. They left with it wet because if I even mentioned diffuse it scared them as the knew they'd leave with frizzy hair. Or i'd blow dry it straight and curl it with straighteners- both me and them believing that they wanted smoother more "manageble" hair. WTF!

I didn't see that i could do it differently. I didn't see that they were looking at me confidently styling other clients hair and that that would make them think that their hair was difficult. They were a problem. No, I was.
I had 2 maybe 3 curl clients so really it didn't feel like a huge part of my work needed to change. Better to invest in more blonding techniques maybe- i did lots of that. Sound familiar?

What changed? My client did. She's seen a stylist online who worked beautifully with natural curls and she wanted that too, of course she did! She asked me how she could get her hair to look like that- i was honest, i said I didn't know. I was embarrassed, she deserved more than that.

What did I do? I learned. What changed? Everything πŸ’— I learned it wasn't difficult, it was just different. I saw the difference it made to clients immediately. I felt confident, they felt seen.

I kept learning, they kept coming. Now 90% of my clients have curly hair.

That's not luck, it's because I show them that I understand their hair and they are searching for someone who does.

Why do I tell you this? I hear from new clients all the time that they are struggling to find stylists, they travel for miles to see someone who loves working with curls. That honestly makes me sad, they shouldn't need to do that.

Whether you have 2 curl clients or 20 give then the service that will change how they feel about salon visits. And if you have 2 now, see how that grows when you learn πŸ’—

Comment LEARN below and i'll send you details of how we can work together. Let's me show you how we can all be the stylist they're searching for xx

I want you to make peace with your curls. I want you to see how beautiful they are. No-one else has curls like you. They ARE you πŸ’—

They're not a problem for you to fix. Yes they change day by day, some days they are bigger, some days they will feel incredible and others they just want to do their own thing. Just like you.

They don't need taming, they don't need shrinking. They need to be loved and to feel the best they can.

Just like you πŸ’—

I am here to help you to understand your curls. I created Curls Club so that their is a space for you to learn and make your peace 🌞

Go to the link in my bio to find out more or drop πŸ™πŸ» in the comments and I'll send you the details.

I want you to see YOU xx
