Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday early with some of the most special people in my life. And on Saturday, I traded at a beautiful wellness event, did exceptionally well, and connected with some truly amazing people.Two beautiful days. Yet, I just could not shift a heavy feeling of loss.Like I was missing something. Then, on Saturday evening, it hit me. It is the one-year anniversary of my Granny passing, and I truly miss her. It feels so strange making memories that she is no longer a part of. It hurts deeply to experience the loss of someone who was so fundamental in your life.
I’m not going to tell you I just pushed past those feelings and stayed strong. That is an outdated way of existing that only leads to burnout. Instead, I chose to stop and feel it.
When we bottle up and ignore our inner being, our body eventually cries out to be heard. It shows up as swelling, fatigue, chronic health concerns, and even skin flare-ups.To honor my grief and release that heavy emotional weight, here is what I did:
1️⃣ I wept. This was a massive emotional release for me. I didn't lock it in; I just let it out.
2️⃣ I stretched. I focused on my hips and thighs to release stored emotional tension and memory from my body.
3️⃣ I spoke. Sharing wonderful memories of her lightened my heart. A friend even told me my whole face lit up as I talked about her.
4️⃣ I tapped. Doing some EFT tapping on my face and shoulders helped me stay present and self-regulate.
Every emotion is valid and deserves to be acknowledged. Even in the Bible, it says there is a time for every emotion—but we aren't meant to go to sleep and wake up carrying that exact same weight. We are meant to work through it.Taking care of my inner self changed everything. By yesterday, the heaviness had lifted, my skin looked great, and I was genuinely beaming.Working on our inner being always releases something beautiful on the outside. 🤍
