Nobody prepares you for this crazy learning curve, the rent, the business rates, the staff drama, and the quarterly VAT bill that makes your stomach drop.
I remember sitting there looking at the numbers thinking, "just do more haircuts" because I didn't know what else to do?!
And that’s when realisation hits you…. It's the hardest lesson.
Being the best Barber in your town will not save a broken business.
If you don't learn how to track your numbers, set your pricing, and build actual systems
you haven’t built a business.
You’ve just built a high-stress job where you're the last person to get paid.
If I had to start over again tomorrow.
I would spend more time on systems and knowing my target number and how to reach it quicker.
Running a barber shop is not rocket science.
But it can get overwhelming really quickly when you don't know what your building.
If you're running a shop right now and it feels like the business is running you, follow me.
I’ll show you how to build a shop that actually gives you your life back.
There is one reason your barbershop gets one-star reviews.
* And it's not your pricing.
*
* It's not your location.
*
* It's not even the haircut.
*
It's just one barber, poisoning everything and everyone around them.
Coming in late, leaving early and quietly telling your other barbers they'd be better off somewhere else.
This is the TOXIC BARBERS.
But they're not the biggest problem in your barbershop for the reason you think.
Because the real damage isn't what they do.
It's what your clients see.
That client sitting in their chair doesn't walk out thinking "that barber was bad."
They walk out thinking "that shop is bad."
And they're not telling their mate to avoid that barber.
They're telling them to avoid your shop.
Which means your barber just lost you a potential client.
They are toxic, but it’s you and your business that takes the
Hit.
And the bad review!

“You might own a barbershop, but that doesn’t mean you’re a business owner.”
If everything depends on you…
If the team can’t function without you…
If the money is messy…
If the systems live in your head…
You don’t own a business yet.
You own a job with rent.
A lot of shop owners confuse being busy with building a business.
But if you have to be there every day for everything to work, you haven’t built a business…
You’ve built yourself another role.
The real test is simple:
Can the shop operate without you?
Can the team make decisions without you?
Can you step away without everything falling apart?
If the answer is no, there’s still work to do.
The goal is not just to open a shop.
The goal is to build something that works.

💈 Being fully booked means nothing if you’re still skint.
One of the biggest traps barbershop owners fall into is thinking busy = successful.
It doesn’t.
A full diary just means people are buying.
You can still be broke if:
📉 Your prices are too low
💸 Your costs are too high
📅 Your rebooking is weak
🚫 Your cancellations aren’t managed
📊 You don’t know your numbers
There’s a huge difference between being a busy barber and a profitable business owner.
If your diary is full but your bank account says otherwise, you don’t have a client problem…
You have a business problem.
This week, work out two numbers:
1️⃣ Your Survival Number – what the shop needs to stay open.
2️⃣ Your Freedom Number – what the shop needs to pay you properly and give you a life outside work.
Once you know the gap, you can start fixing the business. 💷
Ego vs. Business: Why Skilled Barbers Stay Broke
Ego is keeping more barbers broke than a lack of talent ever will. Because a lot of barbers don't want to admit that they just don't understand business. They can talk fades all day, they'll argue about scissors, clippers, and techniques, but ask them their numbers and suddenly it goes quiet. Skill gets you started. Business knowledge gets you paid properly. So, if your shop looks busy, but your business still feels messy, DM me the word "owner," and I'll help you find the first things to sort in your business.
