Mums & Dads you’re going to need a braid that survives 5 days of pillow fights, activities, water sports, and zero adult supervision over a hairbrush.
School Residential’s are often the first time a lot of these girls are properly responsible for their own hair. No mum to fix the ponytail at breakfast. No one to help with detangles before bedtime..
So when a parent plait unravels by day two, it’s not just messy, it’s the tangles, and inability to tie it back up again by herself.
Nobody wants to face the detangling of birds nest by Friday 🙈
That’s why I braid like this for residential week:
🤎 Tighter hand and finger tension so the braid isn’t loose.
🤎 Smaller, neat sections so the braid won’t come away
🤎We braid tangle free hair so it’s smooth and easy when it’s taken out.
🤎 The right product worked through beforehand, so it holds without feeling stiff or leave a white residue
🤎 We give every child a free sleep hat to protect the braids at night preventing fluffy and frizzy braids.
It’s the difference between a braid that looks lovely at drop-off and one that’s still looking immaculate when they get picked up.
I built my Digital Braid Lesson ‘learn to Dutch braid at home’ so parents don’t have to bring their daughter to me every time theres a residential coming up. You learn the exact hand position, sectioning, and product routine yourself, once, and it lasts.
Comment DIGITAL and I’ll send it straight over 👇
£29 (usually £49)

If your daughter LOVES a slick ponytail, it’s her go to daily style, frozen with products so it’s got no chance of slipping this is a little heads up from me.
Tension alopecia (traction alopecia) is real, it’s hair loss caused by repeated or prolonged pulling on the hair follicles.
Slick, tight ponytails are a classic cause because the hairstyle pulls hair back with sustained tension, especially at the hairline, temples, and edges.
How does it happen?
✔️Repeated tight styling stresses the follicle over time
✔️Early signs: redness, small bumps, or soreness at the hairline or hairband; thinning or a receding edge; short “baby hairs” breaking near the roots.
If caught early, it’s reversible the follicle recovers once tension stops
Left unaddressed over months/years, it can become permanent (the follicle scars and stops producing hair)
Who’s at risk?
✔️People wearing tight slicked ponytails every day .
✔️Fine or fragile hair, or hair already weakened by chemical processing
How to prevent?
✔️Alternate the tension point by switching up hairstyles day to day
✔️Ponytails should be snug, not scalp-pulling-tight if it causes a headache or visible skin pulling, it’s too tight
✔️Avoid slicking with lots of products every single day; give your hair rest days
✔️Watch for early warning signs (soreness, small bumps, breaking baby hairs) and ease off the style if you spot any of these.
Now I know your girl LOVES her slick ponytail, so I’m not saying she MUST stop wearing this style. My main advice is have rest days, switch up your styles and don’t OVERLOAD your hair with products that add to the tightness..

I hear this A-LOT!
We didn’t have TikTok or YouTube growing up in the 80’s and 90’s the best we had was Just Seventeen and Cosmo mag for hair and beauty tips ..
If our mum’s didn’t teach us to hairstyle it’s no wonder so many of us don’t know how to style our kids hair , let alone our own hair.
Which is why I would say 90% of my Mum clients would share their frustration with me at not being able to do hair and could only manage a ponytail for their daughter, which is why I created my ‘beyond the ponytail’ lesson.
Gen Z and Gen Alpha have got it good when it comes to hair tutorials - no wonder they’re acing the perfect slick back!
What were your Beauty go to’s growing up? Products, magazines, tv shows ? Ooh the clothes show was fab! Me and my sisters loved that …

If you’re petrified of nits and you have primary aged kids this is for you.
Like you, the thought of my kid getting nits gave me the ick. The thought of trying to get a nit comb through all her hair terrified me as she had so much hair..
So I decided that braided hair was essential for lice prevention and learnt to braid and now I teach other parents how to do the same.
Here are my top tips :
1️⃣ Braid it tight. Not just neat, actually tight. Loose braids still give lice something to grab.
2️⃣ Lock braids down with a quality product. I swear by shine n Jam for this exact reason. It smooths every last flyaway and keeps the style locked in all week, not just at school drop off.
3️⃣ No loose flowing hair at school. If it’s down, it’s an open invitation.
4️⃣Check regularly. Once a week, so it becomes a habit.
5️⃣Keep hair tied up for playtime, sleepovers, anywhere heads get close together.
In 14 years my daughter has had head lice just once. Once! And that was purely down to the fact her hair was braided for school every single day without fail.
The one time she did get nits, I didn’t know how to braid properly and wasn’t using a gel to lock the hair in.
Trust me I booked in for my first Braid Lesson straight after that first experience! 🙈
