Being part of the community of Southend since the 80’s we have seen Sir David Amess at the forefront of the local and wider community for over 3 decades. His light was prematurely extinguished yesterday in tragic and unspeakable circumstances leaving the entire Essex community with a heavy sadness and grey cloud above them.
In time, Sir David’s legacy will shine light once again on our local community. We join together to support and hold his family close to our hearts, and send strength to all parties, communities and faiths who will feel the loss of this great man and remember what he meant to them.
Once the shock calms and the town starts to heal, perhaps Sir David’s dream could become his legacy and have the City of Southend recognised in his honour.
