From one of our neighbours in Ball Green 💚

Ball Green

While urban sprawl takes green belt,
The inner-city slums dominate the lives of those beaten down by the rhythmic drums.
Contaminated land overlooked, left in a rotted state,
Whilst our green belt's beautiful countryside is at risk beyond our gates.
Shameful sites and derelict structures forcibly breaking our working cultures.
Pavements break beneath our feet,
Infrastructure incomplete.
Greed and misleading information,
Unemployment saturation,
People sick with mental fatigue.
Those who would escape to green belt and breathe
Are robbed by those who rule the land,
With grabbing, twisted, greedy hands.
Peace and respect are the values we spent;
Urban sprawl intentionally meant.
Run for your life to the open spaces,
Breathe fresh air, and destress your faces.
"Work hard," they say, "that’s a fact—
We need you to pay increasing tax."
"Work longer and harder, we’ve lengthened your time"—
That clock is ticking with a deafening chime.
I played by the rules, worked hard, and saved,
Found my space to escape unscathed.
Those "very special circumstances" serve to set the scene,
And should mean that we can keep our Ball Green very, very green.
'Tis why we came, to keep us sane.
"England's green and pleasant land,"
We sang at Sunday school,
Faithful in the essence of the wholeness of our toil.
How enraged are we to live and see the cost of being taken for a fool?
'Tis unjust, 'tis an everyday crime, 'tis reckless and heartless moving the goal.
Our faith, our work, our peace you stole.
