Laser Tattoo Removal: Why It Takes Time

Laser tattoo removal is a process that requires multiple treatment sessions. The laser doesn’t simply remove the ink — it breaks the ink particles down into much smaller fragments.

Your body’s natural immune system then gradually removes these particles through the lymphatic system.

This is why tattoo removal takes time, patience and multiple sessions. The skin also needs adequate time to heal between treatments, while your body continues to clear the broken-down ink.

There are no shortcuts — let your skin heal and give your body time to do its job.

It’s totally normal to feel anxious coming to a laser tattoo removal session.

PICOSECOND vs NANOSECOND — WHAT’S ACTUALLY BETTER FOR TATTOO REMOVAL? ⚡

If you Google tattoo removal, you’ll often be told to find a clinic using a Picosecond laser.

But is Pico automatically better?

Not necessarily.

A quality Q-switched Nd:YAG remains a proven and highly effective technology for tattoo removal — particularly for black, dark grey and red pigments.

What really matters is getting the fundamentals right:

⚡ The correct wavelength for the ink colour
⚡ The appropriate energy/fluence for the individual and their skin
⚡ The right spot size
⚡ Correct treatment technique
⚡ And then… the pulse duration

Picosecond lasers deliver an incredibly short pulse — potentially creating finer pigment fragmentation through a strong photomechanical effect.

But PICO isn’t magic.
