I think sometimes we forget that there’s an actual human being behind the screen🫠…

I’ve spent years building this page, and I’m SO proud of what I’ve created. But somewhere along the way, I think I accidentally created a version of myself online that looks a lot more put together than I actually am.

And don’t get me wrong I am proud, ambitious, creative and so obsessed with what I do.

But I’m also anxious. I overthink, A LOT. I have days where I don’t want to create anything. I sometimes create things I hate. I feel behind, I work WAY too much. I can’t say no. I question whether I’m doing enough?

And sometimes I look at my own life and wonder why I don’t feel as successful as it probably looks from the outside. You just don’t see those parts!

And that’s the whole point.

I don’t want this page to become another place where people look at someone else’s life and think:

“Why don’t I have that?”
“Why am I not that successful?”
“Why don’t I look like that?”
“Why can’t I be that confident?”

Because I promise you you are NEVER seeing the full picture. So I’m trying to show a little more of mine, not bcause I want sympathy, or because I think I need to explain myself.

But because maybe being a little more honest about the messy bits reminds someone else that their messy bits don’t mean they’re failing🖤

I am by no means perfect, I don’t have it all figured out.

And honestly… i don’t think anyone really does!

I really needed this reminder when I was starting out 🥹

In 2019, I had around 100 followers, my page was called emsfxmakeup, and honestly… I had absolutely no idea where this little hobby was going to take me.

I didn’t have the perfect branding or any branding for that matter, I didn’t have the consistent content, I didnt have thousands of followers, I didn’t even really know what I was doing I was just 14😭

I just made it exist first.

And then I made it ‘good’ after.

I experimented. I changed my style. I rebranded. I tried things that flopped. I made things I look back at now and think “oh girl…”💀 I learnt, improved, pivoted and kept showing up.

And somehow that little 100 follower account became Doll Em Up… and now we’re celebrating 36,000 of you!?🥹🎀

So if you’re waiting until your branding is ‘perfect’, your content is perfect, your feed is perfect or you feel “ready” enough to start…

MAKE IT EXIST FIRST.

You can make it good later!!🖤

It’s honestly crazy how every photographer brings their own creativity, editing style and vision to the table. The same image can tell a completely different story depending on who’s behind the screen, and I think that’s what makes photography such a fun and incredible art form!!
