Reflexology… but from an evidence-informed perspective 👣
Reflexology isn’t a treatment I talk about very often, but it’s actually something I trained in as part of my Holistic Therapy Diploma over 20 years ago and I still receive regular requests for it.
Traditionally, reflexology is based around the idea that different areas of the feet correspond with different organs and areas of the body.
Over the years, though, my understanding of the body and the way I practise has evolved.
There isn’t good evidence that pressing a particular point on the foot can diagnose or directly influence a specific organ elsewhere in the body.
But that doesn’t mean a reflexology treatment has no value.
Touch, pressure and massage provide sensory input to the nervous system, and having your feet slowly and gently worked on can simply feel incredibly relaxing.
Research into reflexology is still mixed, but there is some evidence suggesting it may help with things such as relaxation, anxiety, stress and general wellbeing.
And sometimes, that’s enough of a reason to have a treatment.
You don’t always need to be trying to fix something.
Sometimes you might just want an hour where you can switch off, have tired feet treated and leave feeling a little calmer and more relaxed. 🌿
So although sports massage remains a big part of what I do, reflexology is still available for anyone who would prefer a gentle, foot-focused treatment. 👣

📚 The work you don’t always see…
Sometimes continual professional development means giving up most of a weekend to sit at a laptop, read research, rewrite assignments and question whether my brain can absorb any more information 😂
There are definitely times when I look outside and think I’d much rather be out walking than studying!
But after all these years working as a massage therapist, I still genuinely want to keep learning.
Our understanding of pain, movement, recovery and the human body continues to evolve and I never want to reach a point where I think I know everything.
For me, professional development isn’t just about collecting certificates.
It’s about questioning what I do, updating my knowledge, recognising the limits of my own scope and becoming better at explaining things to the people who put their trust in me.
Because behind every course, assignment and weekend spent studying is a very simple reason:
I want to provide the best treatment and care I can for every single person who walks through my door.
And now, I think my brain has officially earned a rest. 😂

This week has been a little slower for me, spending some much needed time with my family.
As much as I love my work, I think it’s important to make space for the things that help us switch off, recharge and just enjoy being together.
Next week I’ll be back in the treatment room and I do still have a little availability.
So if you’ve been thinking about booking some time for yourself. Whether you’ve been feeling tense, stressed, achy, or you simply feel like you need an hour to slow down. Just drop me a message and we can find a time that suits you.
For now, I’m enjoying a little more family time. 💙

I was actually hoping for a rainy walk today… 🌧️😂
Waterproof coat on, ready to embrace a bit of drizzle and almost as soon as I started walking, it stopped!
But I carried on anyway and headed towards the River Alyn, which is looking rather more like a stream in places at the moment.
There’s something about the sound of running water that I find instantly calming. Just standing there for a few minutes, listening to it and being surrounded by trees, seems to quieten some of the noise in my head.
It’s one of the reasons I talk so much about slowing down, getting outdoors and finding the things that help us to slow down. It doesn’t always have to be anything complicated.
Sometimes it’s simply a walk, some fresh air and the sound of water. 🌿💧
And apparently carrying a waterproof coat around on a completely dry walk! 😂

Life can change in an instant.
Yesterday our family said goodbye to my father-in-law, and like so many families who have experienced loss, we’re now trying to navigate what life looks like without someone we love.
People often talk about “getting back to normal,” but grief doesn’t really work like that. Instead, I think we slowly learn to find a new normal. One where we carry our memories alongside our sadness.
Some days will feel manageable. Others won’t, and that’s ok.
If you’re grieving too, whether your loss was recent or many years ago, please be kind to yourself. There is no timeline, no right way to grieve, and no prize for pretending you’re okay.
Take the time you need. Rest when you need to. Accept help when it’s offered. And remember that it’s okay to smile, laugh, and still miss someone deeply at the same time.
Sending love to anyone who needs it today. 💙

A massage is never just a massage.
Over the years, I’ve realised that my appointments are about so much more than easing tight muscles.
Sometimes we spend the session celebrating life’s happy moments… a child heading off to college, a new job, a wedding, a new home, or the excitement of welcoming a new puppy.
Other times, the conversations are much harder. A difficult diagnosis, losing someone they love, caring for a family member, relationship struggles, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life.
Whatever someone is going through, one thing I hear time and time again is:
“This is the one hour where I can switch off.”
Massage won’t remove life’s challenges, but it can provide a space to slow down, breathe, feel cared for, and reconnect with yourself for a little while.
Feeling calmer, sleeping better, and leaving with a little less tension physically and emotionally can make coping with life’s ups and downs feel just that little bit easier.
So no… a massage is rarely just a massage.
It’s time to pause.
It’s time to be listened to.
It’s time that’s just for you.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

Anyone else just trying to survive the summer holidays? 😅
Gone are the days when my boys actually wanted to spend time with me and their dad to go for days out to the beach or zoo etc.
Now they’re older they seem to have completely switched to night mode…
🎮 Staying up until all hours gaming.
☀️ Meanwhile, I’m still getting up early for work.
It honestly feels like they’re the ones tucking me into bed while they carry on with their summer holiday! 😂
To all the parents juggling work, routines (or lack of them), and trying to keep everyone happy… I see you.
Only a few more weeks to go!

Pain isn’t always something that needs to be “fixed.”
We’re often sold the idea that someone can find the root cause of our pain and make it disappear. The reality is usually much more complex.
Pain is our body’s protective alarm system. Sometimes it reflects tissue injury, but not always. It can also be influenced by stress, poor sleep, previous experiences, emotions, illness, or simply doing more than our body is currently prepared for.
That doesn’t mean your pain is “all in your head.”
Pain is always a real experience.
Rather than searching for one single cause, it can be more helpful to understand the bigger picture. Is your body under more stress than usual? Have you been sleeping poorly? Have you recently changed your activity levels? Is a previous injury making your nervous system a little more protective?
Understanding your pain doesn’t make it imaginary, it helps you respond to it in a way that’s more likely to support recovery.
Sometimes the goal isn’t to chase a perfect, pain free body. It’s to build a body that feels stronger, more confident, and more capable of doing the things you enjoy.
Happy Friday! ☀️
We’re already into the second week of the summer holidays, where does the time go?
Whether you’re away on holiday, entertaining the children, still working, or simply trying to enjoy a slower pace, I hope you’re able to find a little time for yourself this weekend too.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my little business this week by booking an appointment, recommending me to others, or following along on here. I really do appreciate it.
If you’re feeling like your body could do with a bit of TLC after long car journeys, days out, or simply keeping up with the summer holiday chaos, I still have a few appointments available next week.
Have a lovely weekend, whatever you’re up to! 💙
