y the youngest hairdresser to do this at age 12. He got the hair bug and spent almost every evening after school in his parents salon learning his craft. At 14 he was attending hair science and trichology seminars conducted by some of the worlds leading experts, to really understand the material he was working with. He started to demonstrate with his farther David Charles in London at the hairdressing shows around the age of 16. He trained in hair colouring at Wella Academy in Manchester, then age he 17 did many of his own hairdressing photoshoots and got them published frequently in many of the well known hair magazines even becoming a regional finalist for the L’Oréal Colour Trophy. In the late 90’s he had qualified to a high level and was a case study for his skill and accuracy as a hairdresser at such a young age, which was featured in an industry magazine. Flying through his NVQ qualifications in hairdressing and barbering, Ross Charles then demonstrated his techniques at Salon International in London for Schwartzkopf / Testanera to crowds of other hairdressers. His list of clientele was extensive and still is with a large number of those original clients today, that follow him miles to get their hair done and have stayed loyal for over 17 years. He even has clients that travel from America, Switzerland, Spain and Italy as they only have him to style their hair. Ross and his family have special techniques that they have developed over the years that are true family trade secrets that they guarantee no-one else will know. Continuing the family tradition Ross and his wife Alessandra Ferrara who is from Rome Italy, are pushing their business from strength to strength with constant development in the hairdressing industry. Alessandra is a fantastic hair colourist who has an amazing ability to source and predict new and up and coming trends. Her being an Italian, fashion and style comes so natural to her. She sources the best hair colouring products that are from Italy as they are the biggest produces in the world and uses them with her tool box of extensive skills. The salon is situated on a busy street in the city centre called Gillygate which has a fashionable upmarket vibe just 5 minutes from the York minster. It is an exciting luxurious International team that follows and creates hair fashion and classic looks to suit your needs. We take pride in entering into The British Hairdressing Awards, The National Hairdressing Federation Photo Stylist of The Year and other competitions like L’Oréal Mens Image Award and The L'Oréal Colour Trophy in which we reached the Grand Final in London 2015. We also was in the National Top Ten Peoples Choice Award for L’Oréal 2015 and a finalist for The Rising Star Award 2015

We have been the official hairdressers for Miss York for a few years and preparing for Miss England. We have worked with the BBC, done hair for films and music videos, also worked on the hair of many celebrities. Ross Charles hairdressing has it’s own brand of very special hair product range that is one of the key points to the company's success. Continually we are featured with our innovative hairdressing work in magazines as we have a photographic studio off site to keep everything in house and be proactive in our passion for our work. Our hairstyles have made the front cover of magazines and we are a regular contributor to Modern Barber. We create several Hair collections throughout the year of our new ideas which are featured in consumer and trade press. Ross and his team also present their collections on stage and catwalks showing his innovative ideas. We are members of The Fellowship of British Hairdressing and the National Hairdressing Federation. The salon is fitted out with the finest of Sicilian furniture with the signature red chairs made in stylish cast metal and ornate mirrors all hand crafted in a little village in Catania (Sicily). They make you feel important and special as we deliver our services to your hair. The salon is very classy with a modern feel expressing details like the processing area with the Philip Stark Lois Ghost Chairs by Kartel from Milano Italy. The low lit backwash room for a tranquil and relaxing hair wash with the option of head massage treatments. Our salon tools are to the highest of standard, we use Kasho Damascus scissors that are specially crafted in Japan in a similar way to how Samurai swords are made by folding the steel. Using the best hair products in the world we can find to only give our clients the ultimate results. We promote good quality hair and our team can advise you how to improve yours from in salon treatments and after care advise. In our International Salon Team we also speak Italian and Spanish as our multi cultural staff are bringing the opportunity to some clients that prefer to speak their mother tongue.
