In a voluntary but urgent recall, Medtech Products — the makers of Little Remedies® Honey Cough Syrup — have pulled five lots of the product after discovering a potential bacterial contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the syrup may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus, a bacteria known to cause foodborne illness. In healthy individuals, exposure can lead to vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. But in high-risk groups or large exposures, this bacteria can cause severe infections — and in rare cases, even be fatal.
