๐๏ธ What are we still missing in our understanding of eye disease?
Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are complex - and there is still much to learn about what is happening beneath the surface.
Through Eye-D research with Trinity College Dublin and Research Ireland, weโre helping explore eye disease at a deeper level - connecting clinical findings with whatโs happening at an immunological level.
The goal? To deepen our understanding of eye disease and help inform the eye care of the future.
Exciting research is underway. Watch this space. ๐
๐ August is Childrenโs Eye Health & Safety Month ๐
A new school year means new classrooms, new teachersโฆ and lots of time looking at the board! ๐โ๏ธ
If youโve noticed your child squinting, sitting closer to screens, struggling to see the board, or complaining about their vision, it may be time to have their eyes checked.
At Progressive Vision, our experienced paediatric ophthalmology team understands that children can sometimes feel anxious about an eye appointment. We take a gentle, child-friendly approach and do our best to make the whole experience relaxed โ and even fun!

Why do some people's eye conditions progress faster than others?
In this reel, Mr. Mark Cahill, Clinical Director at Progressive Vision, explains why two people with the same eye condition can have very different outcomes.
While genetics play a role, lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet, overall health, and good blood pressure control can all influence how quickly certain eye diseases progress. One of the clearest examples is age-related macular degeneration (AMD), where smoking has been associated with progression in macular degeneration.
Understanding these risk factors empowers you to take positive steps to help protect your sight.
If you have concerns about your vision or would like an assessment, our experienced team is here to help.
