You might be surprised to hear this but being “advanced” at yoga isnt about going into more physically challenging poses.
It’s knowing your limits, being aware of what you need in this current moment and respecting that. Yoga is not a performance.
I was so nervous joining my first yoga class, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do what the teacher said, if I could do it well enough.
And that’s why I’m talking about this, in the hope that you might feel a little bit less nervous coming on the mat because yoga is for every body, regardless of how you look, who you are you what you can do!
Did anyone else feel like this before their first class?

Went for a swim yesterday after class, a seal swam past underwater and touched my foot 🫣
I didn’t realise it was a seal and despite the image that everyone might have of yoga teachers always being very calm and grounded, I screamed and swam faster than I ever have before. Very different from this photo taken moments before. We are human too 😂
I think the seal just wanted to say hello, but maybe next time I hope I’ll see them coming first 💀
Yoga is for every body and you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable!
I’m not so sure about jeans though 🙈
Thank you for joining me on the mat and was so much fun!
Wrapped ham energy aside 😂
Yoga is for every body! There’s no judgement on the mat.
It doesn’t matter how you look in poses it’s all about how you feel and to listen to your body

Tip for Chaturanga Dandasana (four limbed staff pose)
You’ll often see a version of this pose in vinyasa and flow classes
A tip is to try to have your elbows stacked above your wrists as long as that feels safe and supportive for your body. It can be a challenging shape, and it’s okay if you’re still working towards it.
Remember, it’s a yoga practice, not yoga perfection!
Even a tiny adjustment, like moving your elbows a little closer to that can make a difference. And if it doesn’t feel right today, that’s okay too! There’s no yoga police as far as I’m aware 😳, at the very least, I’m not it!
And for the record, my Chaturanga isn’t perfect here. My shoulders and upper body are a little lower than they should be and that’s all part of the practice!
Flow Yoga, moving with your breath from one pose to the next, breathing, moving and connecting with yourself
Different variations always available for every body to meet you where you are today
“That’s quite the leap”
it was!
My yoga journey started when I was on call as a software engineer, I couldn’t go out for a run but I still wanted to move so I tried yoga
What began as a way to move slowly became a way to calm my mind and connect with myself and I fell in love with it!
That first step opened a door that I never thought I’d walk though

Had fun on Ireland AM with Elaine and Martin chatting about how I got into yoga, why yoga is for every body and Q***r Yoga
We also talked about the importance of q***r spaces and my Flow with Pride fundraiser for Belong To in the lead up to Pride
They joined me on the mat as well for a few poses which was great fun! And if you’re wondering, I wouldn’t recommend jeans for yoga though, sorry Martin
