A little behind-the-scenes from today at .9

Sitting down with and chatting about my journey reminded me of something I’ve always known, but don’t often stop to think about. So many of the decisions I’ve made over the years were made without knowing where they would lead. I didn’t have a grand plan. I just kept taking the next step that felt right.

Looking back now, all of those small decisions, chances taken, doors opened, and even the difficult moments have slowly built the picture of the life I have today.

In a way that will make perfect sense to anyone who knows me, as I drove into the studio this morning there was a huge rainbow stretched across the sky. 🌈

I’ve always taken those little moments as reminders that we’re being guided, even when we can’t see the full road ahead.

It was a lovely experience and, if I’m honest, a bit of a grown-up moment to be asked to sit down and share my story.

I hope you’ll enjoy listening.

📻 The interview will be broadcast on Sunday 28th June at 9am on .9

A little hello from me.

I’ve had quite a few new faces join me here over the last year, so I thought it might be a good time to properly introduce myself.

I’m Sandra Mullen. Makeup artist, celebrant, mum of three, sea swimmer, and someone who firmly believes it’s never too late to begin a new chapter.

Turning 50 last year felt less like a milestone and more like a fresh start. The grey hairs arrived too, but thankfully so did a little more wisdom.

My children are grown, my confidence is growing, and I’m finally giving myself permission to follow the paths that genuinely light me up.

Last year brought some lovely milestones. I joined Network Ireland Galway, received a Highly Commended award in the Creative Professional category, and finished the year by standing in front of more than 100 people to deliver a 15 minute speech without a script.

For someone who spent years doubting herself, that felt pretty significant.

This year has brought even more excitement. I’m honoured to be a finalist in two categories at the upcoming Network Ireland awards: Creative Professional and Networker of the Year.

These days I’m combining two careers that I absolutely love.

As a makeup artist, I get to help women feel like the very best version of themselves. As a celebrant, I have the privilege of helping people mark some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Tomorrow I’m heading off to chat with on the Loughrea Community Radio Business Show about both of those journeys, which feels like the perfect moment to pause and say thank you.

Thank you to every bride, every client, every family, every recommendation, every message, and every person who has supported me along the way.

Whether you’ve been here for years or you’ve only just found my page, I’m delighted you’re here.

Here’s to new chapters, whatever age they arrive. ❤️

Yesterday was a very special morning with beautiful bride Eimear 🤍

I’ve had the pleasure of doing both Eimear and Mary’s makeup over the years for so many special occasions, so being asked to be part of a wedding day always feels that little bit more meaningful.

I had no doubt the morning would run like clockwork. Every detail was thought of, right down to a dedicated makeup room, which was a makeup artist’s dream ✨

Thank you both for trusting me with such an important part of the day. It was a privilege to be there and share in the excitement 🥂💄

Being named a finalist in the Creative Professional category at the 2026 Network Ireland Galway Businesswoman of the Year Awards feels really special 🤍

Creativity has always been a huge part of who I am. I eat, sleep and breathe makeup artistry 💄 Even after almost two decades in the industry, I’m still obsessed with learning, evolving and refining my craft.

What I love most is creating something that reflects the person sitting in front of me. Not changing them, but enhancing who they already are ✨

What’s been really exciting lately is bringing that creativity into my work as a celebrant too. Creating ceremonies that truly reflect a couple, or honour a person’s life and story, has opened up a whole new creative flow for me, and I’m honestly loving it 🤍

Very grateful to be recognised alongside so many talented women, and really looking forward to celebrating with everyone in June 🥂

Did my first Celebration of Life ceremony today.

Nervous, stretched, overheating through perimenopause 😅

But honestly, do the thing that scares you a little. That’s where you feel most alive.

It’s funny, no matter whether you wear very little makeup or love a full face, the common thread is that women love to talk all things makeup… and we love to learn.

One of the biggest things I’ve realised through teaching is that so many women either don’t know where to start, or they’ve worn makeup the same way for years and just want to freshen things up a little.

That’s why I’ve been loving these little Gather & Glow get-togethers around kitchen tables.

Very informal. Tea, treats, makeup, skincare, chats, simple techniques that make all the difference, learning what colours suit you, what products actually work for you, and how to look like the best version of yourself rather than somebody else.

Honestly, they feel like the perfect mix of connection, confidence, and doing something lovely for yourself 🤍

If you’d like to gather a few friends together for your own Gather & Glow, send me a DM. I’d love to come to you.

A year ago, I walked away from my part time job with no real certainty about what was ahead of me. I just had a feeling there was another path waiting for me.

This Friday, I’ll lead my very first ceremony as a celebrant.

I think intuition is rarely loud. It’s usually subtle, quiet, persistent. And the hardest part is trusting it before you can see where it’s leading.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. Sometimes you just need to take one small step towards the thing that won’t leave your mind.

And somehow, support meets you along the way.
