There’s something very satisfying about growing a plant, watching it flourish through the summer and then harvesting it to preserve for the months ahead.

My lemon balm has been absolutely thriving in the holistic garden this summer. Its fresh, citrusy aroma is one of my favourites — even my children love picking a leaf, gently squeezing it between their fingers and releasing that beautiful lemon scent.

Traditionally, lemon balm has long been associated with calm, relaxation and supporting the nervous system. The fresh or dried leaves make a lovely herbal tea, particularly when you want to unwind or quieten a busy mind.

At this time of year, I begin harvesting and drying mine. Once completely dry, some is stored for later use and some is gently infused into a blend of olive and sunflower oils, capturing the oil-soluble components of the herb in a beautiful golden botanical infusion.

You can make a traditional infused oil at home too — dried lemon balm, completely covered in your chosen carrier oil and left to infuse for around 4–6 weeks, before straining. I use a gentle warm-infusion method for mine.

It’s a wonderfully simple process that has been used by herbalists for generations:

Grow → Harvest → Dry → Infuse 🌿

And this particular infusion has another destination at Anam & Bláth...
but I’ll save that for the next post. 🤍

A little look back at a wonderful weekend at Meath Made Creates – Festival of Craft, Design & Creativity 🌿✨

It was such a busy weekend that I never quite got around to sharing it properly at the time!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, stopped by the Anam & Bláth stand, chatted, shopped, supported local craft and joined us for our workshops. 💗

We were absolutely delighted to have both of our workshops fully booked, and it was such a pleasure to spend time creating, sharing and meeting so many lovely people.

Thank you to Meath Made, all of the makers, organisers and everyone involved in bringing such a beautiful celebration of Irish craft and creativity together.

And now we're looking towards autumn… 🍂

🌻 Lus na Gréine — Plant of the Sun

Our sunflowers have certainly lived up to their name this summer! Some are now standing well over six feet tall, and I just had to capture them before their season comes to an end.

Associated with light, vitality and abundance, there’s something beautiful about the sunflower’s natural cycle — from one tiny seed comes this magnificent plant, which in turn gives us an abundance of seeds to begin again. 🌱

As summer starts to fade, these beauties will soon be harvested and left to dry naturally. Their seeds will then be carefully collected and saved, ready to be used and planted again.

Grown, enjoyed, harvested and returned to the earth. 🌻🌱

After a wonderful time away, I'm back in the studio feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to create.

After cooling the skin with a cool shower or compress, soothe unbroken skin with this simple aloe vera gel blend.
