*In Loving Memory of Mr. Ruben Ignatius Mascarenhas (1943 - 2026)*
Born in Valencia in 1943 to Alice and Ignatius Mascarenhas, Ruben was blessed with three siblings - Amelia, Helen and Rony. At a young age, he came to Mumbai in search of work. Life was full of struggles, but those struggles made him bold, hardworking and strong in character.
He married Philomena, the love of his life. Together they built a home filled with faith and sacrifice. Through many ups and downs, they raised their four children - Cynthia, Rudalf, Aqualine and Denzil - with discipline, love and Christian values.
Pappa was a man of boundless energy as a boy, who grew into a man of responsibility when it mattered most. He taught us not by words alone, but by example. He taught us the value of honest work, respect for elders, love for family, and unshakable faith in God. For him, family was everything.
We have seen generations from the Greatest Generation to Gen Z. Pappa was our Silent Generation - quiet, strong, enduring, and selfless.
After our mother Philomena left for her heavenly abode, Pappa was crushed. He carried all his grief and pain alone, yet he never forgot to smile for us. Even in his loneliness, he remained our pillar of strength.
In his last days of sickness and pain, he bore everything with great patience. At last, he heard his final call from the Lord. He left us peacefully, with a glow and a serene smile on his face, as if he was finally going to meet his loved ones and make the broken chain whole again.
He leaves behind his children and six grandchildren who will forever cherish his blessings. His last loving words calling us "Bai and Beta" will echo in our hearts forever. It felt as if he had so much more to say. How we long to hear that voice once more.
Your journey is now peaceful, Pappa. Your burdens are laid to rest. You taught us strength, you gave us kindness. Though Heaven has called you home, you will never leave our hearts.
*Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.*
