Everyone expects the same thing: warm, sweet, safe. Tomilson wanted the opposite. In this video, the Blackcliff Parfums founder explains why Vanilla Siren, the house’s only vanilla inspired Extrait de Parfum, had to break that expectation completely.

Extrait de Parfum isn’t a fancier name for the same perfume. It’s a different concentration entirely, 20 to 40 percent aromatic oil against the 15 to 20 percent you’ll find in most Eau de Parfum.
That difference changes how a fragrance behaves. Every Blackcliff fragrance is composed at extrait strength from the first mod. We don’t build it lighter and dilute down. The formula was never designed to be cut, so we don’t cut it.

Tomilson didn’t learn about fragrance in a lab. He learned it in Barbados, where the heat changes how everything smells depending on the hour and salt air works its way into your clothes without asking. That’s still where he starts. Before a brief ever reaches Kyle, it passes through that instinct: what a place actually smells like, not what people assume it should.
In this clip, he talks about how that translates into direction. Not “make it tropical.” Something closer to a specific afternoon, a specific wind, a specific kind of heat. That’s the language Kyle eventually has to work from.

Two days at Exsence Milano and the best part so far have been the conversations.
We’ve had exchanges that began with curiosity and turned into genuine fascination.
People have stopped at the stand, experienced our fragrances for the first time, and immediately wanted to understand more. Some returned a second time because a scent had stayed with them. They wanted to know the inspiration behind each fragrance, the meaning behind the names in our collection, and the personal connection between Blackcliff and its home, Barbados.
A few people told us our fragrances were unlike anything they had encountered before.
That is exactly what we set out to create.
Blackcliff is not made for everyone. But for the people it is made for, there is a moment of recognition. They find us.
