We attended Kabir’s 1st birthday celebration at Sentosa and were warmly welcomed by his close-knit and lovely family 🥰✨

We spent some time chatting with his grandfather, who shared how deeply grateful he feels for his children—calling them his greatest blessing and pride ❤️ He also spoke about his parenting philosophy, which stood out as quite different from the more traditional Asian approach.

When his children were young, he guided them with values and direction. But as they grew into their teenage years and adulthood, he made a conscious shift—to become someone they could relate to as a friend 🤝, so they would continue to confide in him openly instead of drifting away. He shared that while a parent’s role is to guide, the decisions ultimately belong to the children, and not something to control or interfere with.

I found his perspective really refreshing and quietly powerful 🌿 It’s rare to see that kind of trust and respect between generations, and perhaps that’s why his children still choose to live close by—and naturally include him in the next generation’s lives 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

I wish more parents could be like this—uplifting rather than controlling, gently 托举 their children and future generations instead of weighing them down 🌱✨
