10 mm solar lentigo, 2 weeks after VSLS Reepot laser treatment. The DuoDERM dressing is removed after the treated area has completed its initial healing. Temporary pinkness is a normal part of the recovery process and gradually fades over time. Daily sun protection and proper skincare are important to support healing and help reduce the risk of recurrence.

👀🔥 Does your sunscreen make your eyes sting?

You might think sunscreen is the problem, but certain chemical UV filters can sometimes migrate into the eyes throughout the day.

💧 Burning
💧 Tearing
💧 Watery eyes
💧 Eye irritation

These complaints are especially common during workouts, hot weather, or long days outdoors. ☀️🏃‍♀️

For people with sensitive eyes, mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide may be a more comfortable option. 🧴✨

The best sunscreen isn't just the one with the highest SPF.

It's the one you can wear comfortably every single day. 🙌

☀️ Your sunscreen might be protecting you from UV rays... but not from the light that can worsen melasma.

Many people focus only on SPF, but visible light—especially blue light—can also stimulate pigment production in melasma-prone skin.

🧴 That's where Iron Oxides come in.

Iron Oxides, commonly found in tinted sunscreens, help reduce visible light exposure and may provide an extra layer of protection beyond traditional UV filters.

✨ If you have melasma-prone skin, don't just ask: "Does my sunscreen block UV?"

Ask: "Does it help block visible light too?"

Because for melasma-prone skin, SPF alone may not be enough.

Age spot or melasma? Many people think they're the same, but they require very different treatment approaches.

A quick clue:
If it looks like a spot, think age spot.
If it looks like a shadow, think melasma.

Age spots usually have sharper borders, a more uniform brown color, and appear as separate individual lesions. Melasma often looks blurry, spreads in larger patches, and commonly appears symmetrically on both cheeks.

This distinction matters because treating melasma like an age spot can sometimes make pigmentation worse.

A large 20mm age spot removed more cleanly than expected.

Many people assume larger age spots are harder to treat, but size alone doesn't determine the outcome. With proper laser selection, precise energy delivery, and appropriate aftercare, even larger solar lentigines can often achieve excellent cosmetic improvement.

Every pigmentation case is different. The key is choosing the right treatment strategy for the right lesion.

☀️ Sunscreen Recommendation for Melasma-Prone Skin After Laser Treatment

“Your sunscreen might be irritating your melasma without you realizing it.”

For melasma-prone or sensitive skin after laser treatment, I often prefer mineral sunscreen. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide physically reflect ultraviolet light, so they usually feel gentler for reactive skin and sensitive eyes.

Zinc Oxide also provides strong U-V-A protection, which is important because U-V-A can worsen melasma and photoaging.

Visible light matters too. Blue light can also worsen melasma, so iron oxides may help, although many gentle mineral sunscreens still lack enough of them.

At Olive Young in Korea, one mineral sunscreen brand I personally like is AESTURA because it feels relatively gentle and comfortable for sensitive skin.

Of course, mineral sunscreens may leave some white cast, but for many sensitive skin patients, the lower irritation can be worth it.

Doctor’s Pick: Post-Laser Skincare for Melasma-Prone Skin ✨

After laser treatment, many patients ask,
“What skincare should I use?”

For melasma-prone skin, irritation after laser can sometimes make uneven pigmentation more noticeable. So the priority is not strong active ingredients, but calming the skin and supporting barrier recovery.

If I had to choose one Olive Young brand, I’d personally recommend AESTURA as a safe and balanced option.

The AESTURA Atobarrier cream is ceramide-based, helping support the skin barrier without feeling too heavy.

And don’t forget cleansing 🫧
A gentle cleanser, like cleansing milk, can help reduce friction after laser treatment.

Post-laser skincare is about creating a calm environment where your skin can recover comfortably.

And of course, every Olive Young visit ends with snack shopping 🍪

Melasma-prone skin needs more than simple “whitening.”

Two ingredients that can be helpful are Tranexamic Acid and Niacinamide.

Tranexamic Acid helps target pigment-triggering pathways related to inflammation and vascular signaling.

Niacinamide helps support the skin barrier, reduce visible uneven tone, and inhibit melanosome transfer from melanocytes to surrounding skin cells.

For melasma-prone skin, the goal is not aggressive brightening, but a consistent, barrier-friendly strategy that helps calm the skin and reduce pigmentation triggers.
