Breaking:Asset Declaration Non-Compliance by Public Officials.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) through its Chairperson Alexandra Kormah Zoe, reported that 73.5% of 1,900 public officials have failed to declare their assets as required by the Constitution.

Speaking at MICAT Thursday press briefing the Chairperson says Only 26.5% of Government official have complied, highlighting significant issues with transparency across the Legislative and Executive branches.

President Boakai Urges Regulation and Oversight of State-Owned Enterprises

Beijing, China - President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. has reiterated his commitment to regulating and capping the salaries and benefits of executives and board members of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

The President emphasized the need for compensations to be in line with the economic realities of the country, signaling a significant step towards ensuring probity, the judicious use of public resources, transparency, and accountability within the public sector.

President Boakai spoke when he received a comprehensive report from the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE), which outlined the outcomes of a thorough review of remunerations, stipends, and operational inefficiencies across various state-owned enterprises.

The report brought to light the lack of coordination between SOE Boards and management, prompting a call for the development of a regulatory framework to govern the SOE sector.

Expressing his appreciation for the diligent work of the BSE, President Boakai thanked Director General Arthur Massaquoi for the insightful report.

He recognized and empathized with the legitimate concerns of Liberians regarding financial mismanagement inefficiencies and waste within SOEs, signaling a proactive approach to addressing these issues.

The Liberian Leader urged the BSE Management and the Governance Commission to collaborate in formulating a comprehensive Corporate Governance Policy that would address the existing gaps and bypasses in the sector and harmonize operations.

This call to action reflects the Government's commitment to driving sector-wide reform, ensuring efficiency, and fostering an environment of accountable governance within state-owned enterprises.

President Boakai noted that his Administration's stance on the need for oversight and regulation of state-owned enterprises underscores his dedication to promoting transparency, efficiency, and responsible management of public resources.

STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT OF LIBERIA

(Monrovia, Thursday, August 22, 2024):- Early this morning, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in an attempt to execute a search and seizure warrant at an identified property in the Small Town Community, around the Bernard Beach vicinity, received resistance from some community members that led to the LDEA personnel pulling out of the community.

As a result of the resistance, several LDEA personnel sustained injuries and are currently being treated at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.

After the LDEA pulled out, individuals believed to be members of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) blocked the free flow of traffic, setting roadblocks, lighting tires, and pelting stones at vehicles and pedestrians on Tubman Boulevard, near the party headquarters. Several vehicles were damaged, and innocent citizens as well as law enforcement officers were injured by rocks thrown from the direction of the party headquarters.

To restore law and order, the Liberia National Police (LNP) swiftly intervened. The Joint Security also states categorically that no lethal weapon was used. The Government clarifies that the LDEA search and seizure ex*****on was not intended for, nor did it target the Headquarters of the CDC.

The Joint Security affirms its commitment to the rule of law and protection of our democratic principles. The security forces will continue to perform their duties with professionalism and integrity, ensuring that individuals enjoy their rights in a safe environment.

The Government also urges everyone to refrain from violence and carry on with their normal activities.

In another development, the Government of Liberia's attention has been drawn to a story published in today’s edition of the FrontPage Africa Newspaper titled: “TO RAID OR NOT TO RAID”.

The Government of Liberia categorically denies that it or any of its agencies ever requested or sought to obtain a warrant to search and seize the home of former President Weah.

The Government emphatically states that the story published in the newspaper about a supposed plan to search and seize the home of the former President is false and without any truth. The case in question, The Gracious Ride case, is currently before the Supreme Court.

The prosecutorial arm of the Government is the Ministry of Justice, and if there are any questions, indictments, or warrants of arrest to be issued, they would derive from the Ministry of Justice. FrontPage Africa did not seek any verification of the story from the Ministry of Justice. Additionally, the Legal Advisor has not sought nor been involved in any warrant contrary to the FPA story.

The Government of Liberia has called on FrontPage Africa to retract and correct its sensational and unverified publication as it could lead to a dangerous national security situation.

Former President George Weah is shocked over clashes between CDC and State Security forces..

Former President George Weah has expressed shock and dismay over what he termed as the police’s decision to open fire on innocent civilians near his party’s headquarters and in the surrounding areas.

Speaking to FrontPageAfrica following the police raid on the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) national headquarters on Tubman Boulevard in Congo Town, Weah condemned the actions of the police, describing them as a threat to peace and a question mark over the UP-led administration’s ability to govern effectively.

“The UP administration claims they know how to govern, but they are not exhibiting tolerance. Why open fire on innocent civilians? As early as 2 AM, they started attacking,” former President Weah stated.

“This is not good governance. We are a nation of rule and law. This needs to stop. We demand answers.”

Violent clashes have erupted between riot police and CDC supporters since early this morning. Footages from the scenes show party supporters being forcefully detained by riot police. A particularly disturbing video shows police dragging a supporter from within the party’s headquarters amidst thick clouds of tear gas.

According to reports, at around 4:30 AM on Thursday, officers from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) raided alleged drug dealers in the Small-Town Community, which hosts the CDC headquarters. Sources indicate that the drug dealers fled into the party headquarters, prompting the officers to follow them inside.

CDC Secretary General Jefferson Koijee took to Facebook as early as 6 AM, stating, “Heavily armed state security forces have invaded our party’s headquarters for the second time this morning, engaging in sporadic shootings that caused panic and chaos among citizens and partisans in and around the party’s headquarters.”

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished residents of our beloved Dist 9, I came under severe attack by Police under the instructions of IG Gregory Coleman earlier this morning at the CDC HQ.

As Secretary General of the CDC Legislative Caucus and Representative on the ticket of our party, I have gone to calm situations between Police and our partisans when the unprofessional scene was witnessed.

After asking partisans to return to the HQ off the entrance of our Party and they respectfully obeyed, the Police still tear-gassed me and the folks in the full glare of the public while within the premises.

This unprofessional action captured on several media networks is irresponsible and life threatening; Gregory Coleman and the government will have to answer why they want me dead.

The peace of this country is in their hands and I see them doing everything to jeopardize it.

It is unfortunate and disappointing, I have never seen such ANGRY WINNERS in a long time, glad we are returning to work and we will lift these matters to the highest level.

At the moment my partisans,other well wishers and I are at risk for the record!!

Liberia Information Minister, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah is calling on all civil servants who feel they was illegally dismissed, or their contacts was wrongly terminated to follow what the law says by filing their complaints to the court for unlawful dismissal and the system will give them a chance.

According to the Minister these employees was dismissed for consistently insulting the president on social media, something he said don’t represent a good behavior of a civil servant.
