Step 1 - Sketch Fixation
The thin line on the upper lip is a working sketch that helps the artist precisely control the shape, symmetry and boundaries of the procedure.
In this case, the natural lip colour had significantly faded, which can make it appear as though the pigment is being implanted slightly beyond the natural lip colour. However, the procedure is performed according to the natural lip contour, not beyond it.
It is also important to know that during the procedure, an anaesthetic is applied to the area that has already been treated. This can cause the tissues to temporarily blanch, making the natural lip colour even less visible. As a result, the border may appear more pronounced in the photo than it actually is.
During the healing process, this superficial sketch line gradually disappears along with natural skin flaking and scabbing. After complete healing, it does not remain as a separate, graphic contour.
Step 2 - Colour Application
The photo clearly shows two different stages of the same procedure: the lower lip has already been fully filled with pigment, while the upper lip is still at the preparation stage.
Once healed, the colour becomes softer and more natural, while the pigment blends harmoniously with the lips’ natural tone ✨

Why does permanent makeup change during the healing process?
Many clients become concerned when they notice changes in the color and density of their brows after the procedure. In reality, this is a completely natural part of skin regeneration.
After the treatment, pigment is present not only in the dermis but also within the superficial layers of the epidermis. As the skin renews itself, the color goes through several healing stages:
▪️ First days (Day 1–5)
The brows appear darker and more saturated than the final healed result. This is due to mild swelling and pigment oxidation on the skin surface.
▪️ Flaking phase (Day 5–10)
Tiny micro-crusts form as part of the skin’s natural healing response. During this stage, excess pigment from the upper skin layers is shed. It may seem as though the color has become patchy or faded significantly.
▪️ Secondary color bloom (Day 10–30)
As the epidermis fully renews, the pigment gradually reappears. The color becomes softer, more natural, and more even.
▪️ Final healed result (4–6 weeks)
Only after complete skin regeneration can the true result be evaluated and, if necessary, perfected during the touch-up appointment.
It is important to understand that permanent makeup does not heal in a linear way. Temporary fading, unevenness, and changes in color intensity are normal stages of the healing process.
